TriHealth Bridge

April 16, 2024

Hi Team –

While we’ve certainly had more than our fair share of “April Showers” so far this spring, it has, in no way, dampened the bright prospects here at TriHealth for continued progress in our work to Get Healthcare Right for all those we serve and those who serve. And to learn more about where we’re at and what’s ahead, I hope you will join us today at 12pm on Bridge for our April Team Member Town Hall livestream. We will provide updates on our work to bring better care, better health, and better value to our community, celebrate wins, discuss current challenges and how we are addressing them, and of course, answer all of your questions. And as always, we’ll be giving away some fun TriHealth prizes for those who join the conversation. Click here for today’s agenda and be sure to tune in at noon!

Getting Healthcare Right
Advancing Health Equity: Bethesda North Recognized for Supporting Black Maternal Health
In honor of Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17), U.S. News and World Report has recognized a select group of hospitals across the country for breakthrough work in advancing health equity and improving Black maternal health. Bethesda North was recognized as one of just 26 hospitals nationwide for achieving excellent outcomes for C-sections and unexpected newborn complications among Black parents. As consistently one of U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, Bethesda North was the only hospital in Cincinnati and one of only two hospitals in Ohio to receive this additional recognition!

With Black moms 2.5 times more likely to die during childbirth and three times more likely to experience infant loss than any other race, TriHealth has made it a priority to address this troubling, unjust, and preventable health disparity head-on by proactively putting in place targeted evidence-based clinical practices, programs, and resources. These include emergency response protocols, diversified care, the maternity and infant quality program, simulations/education, innovative social service programs, food pantries, donor milk program, and greater reliability in policy adherence during the care of our patients. This ensures that every Black mom and baby – and all moms and babies for that matter – receive the safest, best, and most equitable care possible to help them thrive; and these efforts are being recognized as a national model and benchmark for other U.S. health systems! Recently, both Good Samaritan Hospital and Bethesda North Hospital were awarded “leader” and “advocate” badges by Mama Certified, a first-of-its-kind certification aimed at advancing maternal health equity for Black families across Greater Cincinnati.

Congratulations to our Maternity and Women’s Services teams at both Bethesda North and Good Sam! And while we are proud to be recognized, we know our work to advance health equity and break down barriers to access for our entire community and all patients we serve is far from complete. This is why we are moving quickly to establish and operationalize the TriHealth Center for Health Equity – all so we can tangibly deliver on our commitment to eradicate health disparities by improving access, care, and outcomes for ALL!

Driving Innovation to Advance Cancer Care
As the region’s largest and most respected provider of cancer care, TriHealth is committed to help lead advances and breakthroughs in the cure and treatment of cancer through research and clinical innovation. So, I’m excited to share, as yet another example of our leadership in cancer care and research, four abstracts from researchers and providers at the TriHealth Precision Medicine Institute, TriHealth Cancer & Blood Institute (TCBI) and Oncology Research have been accepted to the prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting! The ASCO Annual Meeting is the world’s largest clinical oncology research meeting, attracting more than 30,000 cancer care professionals from around the world.

Through these abstracts, our TriHealth team will share our innovations in the use of data, technology, and research to enroll more patients in clinical oncology trials more efficiently and effectively, improve test ordering in electronic medical records, and integrate the use of EMRs in Precision Oncology.

Congratulations to Dr. James Maher, System Chief, and the TriHealth Cancer & Blood Institute, Precision Medicine, and Oncology Research teams for your collaboration and dedication that is ultimately helping us bring the best care and clinical outcomes to our patients… today and always

Investing in Our Facilities: Next Phase in the Good Samaritan Campus Transformation
The second phase of the $240 million transformation of the Good Samaritan Hospital campus began just last week. After cutting the ribbon on the new five-story, 700-space South Parking Garage in March, construction crews are now beginning the demolition of the old Dixmyth team member parking garage. This demolition project will take several months and will pave the way for the next phase by preparing the site for construction of the new six-story Ambulatory South Tower.

O’Rourke Wrecking Company, a local women-owned business, will complete the demolition work, with plans to recycle all materials from the garage, including concrete and steel. This is yet another example of TriHealth’s “green” philosophy and commitment to recycling in action.

Once completed, the 168,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Ambulatory South Tower will serve as the home to Good Sam’s new Emergency Department, TriHealth Cancer & Blood Institute, Advanced Surgical Institute & Neurosciences, TriHealth Heart & Vascular Institute, Women’s Services, Diagnostic Imaging, and more!
