Hi Team –

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend with loved ones, and had the opportunity to, once again, celebrate the start of spring and the feelings of hope and spiritual renewal that mark this special holiday. We’ve certainly come a long way since last Easter and I’m grateful for our entire team’s hard work and “heroic” sacrifices over the past year that have helped us get to the point where we can gather in small groups again and begin the gradual return to a more normal life and world! Now, we must ensure we stay on-track and help prevent a potential fourth COVID wave by getting ourselves and our patients vaccinated and continuing to practice the proven safety and prevention measures – see more details in the COVID Update below.

Baseball Season in Cincinnati is Off and Running!

While Thursday’s Home Opener was not what we hoped for, our Cincinnati Reds still kicked off the 2021 baseball season with lots of excitement, taking two out of three games against the Cardinals! And whether they win or lose, it’s wonderful to have our American pastime back and to be able to safely enjoy a game at Great American Ball Park in person! With the assistance of TriHealth and our infection prevention team, the Reds are leading the way in modeling how our city can return to large, in-person events with proper COVID precautions, while still providing a lot of fun for all. And speaking of fun, through our longstanding partnership with the Reds, we launched the new TriHealth Family Zone at the Great American Ballpark – which was a big hit with parents and our littlest baseball fans (click here to see photos)! We worked collaboratively over the past two years to bring this amazing space to life, and it’s an experience you and your family won’t want to miss – so be sure to check it out the next time you’re at a game!

COVID Update

In recent weeks, we have, once again, been reminded that while we may be done with COVID and this pandemic, it is not done with us – and it is ready to rear its ugly head again the minute we let down our guard. Of concern, we are now seeing new cases inch up across the country, creating the real possibility of a fourth COVID wave. Cases at TriHealth remain relatively flat today, but the community’s positivity rate and R-factor are increasing (see latest statistics in sidebar). This is likely due to the spread of new variants, less consistent public adherence to mitigation measures, and the fact that we have not yet reached the required percentage of the population vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. According to data from the CDC, as of last Friday, nearly 58 million Americans – just 17% of the U.S. population – are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. And, according to the Mayo Clinic, we will need at least 70% or 200 million people either vaccinated or recovered from COVID to achieve herd immunity in order to halt this pandemic. President Biden has stated that by the end of May, there will be enough vaccines available in the U.S. to inoculate the entire adult population – and we have the means to vaccinate every U.S. adult by the end of July. At TriHealth, we are doing everything possible to support this effort, thanks to our exceptional vaccination team! Vaccine scheduling is easy and reliable and distribution remains steady, with an average of 7,500 doses being administered each week across the system’s seven vaccination centers. We continue to be the largest provider of vaccinations in Cincinnati and eagerly await larger shipments, so we can deliver even more lifesaving vaccine to our community as quickly as possible. Thank you for continuing to work as ONE TEAM to ALWAYS practice the proven mitigation measures and to help ensure everyone – including each of us – gets vaccinated!
