Hi Team!
I’m thrilled to share that we’re taking another giant step forward in our efforts to get healthcare right – better care, better health, better value – and greater affordability! Later this week, we will announce publicly that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (“Anthem Blue Cross”) and TriHealth have entered into an exclusive partnership to offer an innovative, high quality, more affordable health insurance product, called “Blue Connection,” to employers and consumers throughout the greater Cincinnati region. Blue Connection is built around TriHealth’s high-performing, integrated network of 6 hospitals, 11 major ambulatory campuses, and nearly 2,000 physicians – a system that now serves more than 500,000 members of our community. The network will also include our partners, Cincinnati Children’s and St. Elizabeth Healthcare, to provide access to complex pediatric care and to conveniently serve residents of Northern Kentucky.
This innovative health insurance product is the first of its kind in southwest Ohio and responds to growing demand from employers and consumers for more affordable healthcare and better health outcomes. It will leverage the considerable strengths of Anthem Blue Cross and TriHealth – the region’s largest and most respected payer and provider! Anthem Blue Cross brings to this partnership the scale, sophistication, and credibility of a national health insurance enterprise with deep Ohio roots to successfully administer and sell this innovative product to local and national employers. Anthem Blue Cross is also the second largest health insurance company in the country with nearly 50 million participants; and it remains the most respected health insurance “brand,” with the highest participant satisfaction and the most comprehensive and highest quality network of providers.
TriHealth brings to the partnership one of the nation’s top-performing accountable care organizations, with a proven track record of improving quality, while decreasing the cost of care. Thanks to the remarkable progress we have made together to evolve our payment and care models, we have accelerated our progress to get healthcare right – the right care, in the right place, at the right time, to produce the right patient outcomes, at the right cost. As a result, we are well-positioned, like never before, to offer this unique insurance product to employers throughout the region at a savings of 12-15% over their current health insurance costs!
In fact, we believe so strongly in the benefits of this innovative care and payment model – and our relationship with Anthem – that we will first introduce Blue Connection to our team members starting this fall during Open Enrollment, with coverage effective on January 1, 2020. The local Cincinnati provider network for our team member health plan will remain the same under Blue Connection. And when TriHealth team members and covered dependents require care outside of Cincinnati, they will now have access to Blue Cross’ highly acclaimed and extensive national network!
Blue Connection health plan options will replace our TriHealth Benefit Solutions (TBS) plan. TBS has been instrumental in administering benefits for our 12,000 team members and their families over the past several years. In the coming months, we will refocus TBS on our system’s Vital Few Priorities, our partnership with Anthem, and our accelerated population health work.
Together with Anthem Blue Cross, we will introduce Blue Connection to the broader southwest Ohio employer community beginning immediately, with coverage available in 2020. Through Blue Connection, more employers and patients will benefit from TriHealth’s commitment to deliver high quality affordable care. And over time, this will result in more and more members of our community choosing TriHealth doctors and facilities – giving us an even greater opportunity to get healthcare right – better care, better health, better value – for all those we serve, including and especially our own TriHealth family! Look for more information about Blue Connection in your fall Open Enrollment materials coming later this month.

We are at 40% of our participation goal to date, and there is still plenty of time to donate to One Campaign to improve the health and wellbeing of those most in need. And remember, all those who donate are entered into a system raffle for great weekly prizes, including tickets to Broadway shows, Bengals games, and more! One lucky winner will be drawn at the end of the campaign to receive a luxury vacation package worth $5,000!

Weekly Huddle Message: Ask Clarifying Questions
We all learn by asking questions, and it’s also an important part of our journey to becoming a High Reliability Organization. We should all be asking clarifying questions if we aren’t sure about something, and also to ensure the entire group is in mutual understanding. “Knowledge is having the right answer. Intelligence is asking the right question.”
