TriHealth Bridge

June 25, 2024

Hi Team –

Well, summer is sure off to a HOT start!! With record-breaking temperatures over the past week, I hope you’ve been able to stay cool, while still finding fun ways to enjoy the many summer outdoor activities and events the Greater Cincinnati region has to offer! And with the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, along with next week’s start of our new fiscal year on July 1, we’ve still got so much ahead to look forward to, including our own Kings Island Team Member Summer Celebration in early September! So, here’s to making the most of this summer, while continuing our important work to Get Healthcare Right for all those we serve – and those we serve beside! Following is a roundup of our most recent and upcoming happenings across TriHealth...

Getting Healthcare Right
Last Chance to Take the 2024 TriHealth Engagement Survey
Building and sustaining a great culture and work environment is at the heart of our work to Get Healthcare Right. And building a great culture – which supports our people in being their best and doing their best – starts with actively listening to, believing, and acting on what our team members and physicians tell us will make TriHealth a great system for ALL those we serve, and those who serve! And one way, among many others, we do this is through our annual Engagement Survey – which is now underway through this Friday, June 28.

A BIG thank you to all of our team members and physicians who have already completed the 2024 TriHealth Engagement Survey – nearly 60% of our team so far!! If you haven’t had the chance to participate yet, you still have time! The survey remains open through this Friday, June 28, and we want – and need – our entire TriHealth Team to participate! Why? Because the more team members and physicians we hear from, the better we can listen to, learn from, and take action on your feedback – all so we can continue to improve in ways most important to you! So, please, make it a point to complete the confidential survey this week, using one of these three easy ways to participate:

Celebrating Jenny Skinner
As I shared in January, Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) Jenny Skinner will retire at the end of this week, following 34 years of exceptional and dedicated service to TriHealth patients, nurses, team members, and physicians. But before she goes, we’re making sure we let Jenny know just how much she is loved, respected, appreciated, and valued for who she is and all she has done to make TriHealth the best it can be for those we serve and those who serve!

Jenny has served with distinction as a visionary, an inspiring nursing and system leader, and a change agent, always committed to “people-first” excellence! A true home-grown leader, Jenny earned her nursing diploma from the Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing. She joined TriHealth in 1990 as a Nurse Manager at Bethesda North and then went on to serve as Coordinator for Nursing Quality Improvement, Director of Corporate Education/Nursing Support Systems, and Director/Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness before stepping into her current role as CNE in 2018, where she has excelled and helped to elevate nursing excellence on all fronts!

So, as we send Jenny off to her well-deserved retirement, we will host two events tomorrow, Wednesday, June 26, for team members, volunteers, and physicians to join us in celebrating and thanking Jenny for her exceptional service to TriHealth, and wishing her all the best in retirement:

  • 12-1pm at Good Samaritan Hospital, 4th floor conference room
  • 2:30-3:30pm at Bethesda North Hospital’s Golder Conference Room

Building a Culture of Inclusion and Belonging to Foster Health Equity
It’s been a busy month of living our TriHealth Values and putting them into action – particularly, Respect for All People, Response to Community Needs, and Valuing and Celebrating Differences. Here are just a few highlights…

  • Celebrating Juneteenth – A number of system and community celebrations were held to honor and remember Juneteenth – the official end of slavery – highlighted by the system-wide screening of “Breaking the Silence: A Black Nursing Documentary.” This powerful 30-minute film, sponsored by TriHealth and bi3, brings to light the struggles faced by Black nurses and nursing students and inspires action to create a more diverse and inclusive workforce. I was excited to attend this screening and to engage in this important conversation, together with Dr. Thomas Shockley, TriHealth Chief Equity Officer, our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Belonging (DEI+B) team, Terri Hanlon-Bremer, TriHealth Chief Operating Officer, Tira Williams, Director of Health Equity, filmmakers Deasa Dorsey and Ashley Glass, along with a capacity crowd of team members, physicians, and leaders.

  • Serving Our Community at Cincinnati Pride As the official healthcare provider for Cincinnati Pride, TriHealth, once again, demonstrated its commitment to “see, hear, and serve ALL of Cincinnati’s richly diverse communities – including the LGBTQ+ community – during last Saturday’s annual Pride events at Sawyer Point. I joined many of our leaders and team members from PRISM, DEI+B, Event Medicine, and other departments who volunteered throughout the day to provide health screenings, on-site care for urgent and emergent health needs, and important health education material and information about TriHealth and our comprehensive range of services.

  • Participating in Regional “Think Tank on Equity and Inclusion” – Eliminating health disparities and achieving greater health equity for all requires intentionality and commitment from the entire community. So, as part of our efforts to lead the way in fostering greater community-wide collaboration to address this important topic TOGETHER, last week, TriHealth and bi3 were active participants in the 2024 Think Tank on Equity and Inclusion. The event gave area leaders in business, government, community and non-profit organizations the opportunity to engage in meaningful and constructive conversations about health equity issues and ways in which we can work together to improve the health of our ENTIRE community!!
Our own Jeremiah Kirkland, President of Bethesda Butler Hospital and McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, represented TriHealth as a featured presenter at the event. Jeremiah discussed the strategies and initiatives being taken by TriHealth to address social determinants of health – like socio-economic status, food insecurity, lack of transportation, and others – which affect both access to healthcare and overall health and even life expectancy. Jeremiah also highlighted the creation and mission of TriHealth’s Center for Health Equity, the impact of our innovative School to Work program, and our ongoing work in creating inclusive and equitable experiences for Black mothers and babies at Good Samaritan and Bethesda North hospitals. Watch: Local12 TV Special on Cutting Edge Medicine
I hope you had the opportunity last Saturday afternoon to watch Local12’s special news program – “Next Level Healing” – featuring TriHealth and the many ways we are leading the way to bring better care, better health, and better value to those we serve through advancements in medical technology. A special thanks goes out to our TriHealth physicians, team members, and leaders who shared their insights, personal experiences, and expertise about medical advances ranging from Genetics and Precision Medicine to Medical Forensics to Mechanical Circulatory Support therapies to our transformational Population Health work. They also discussed how these advances are improving care and clinical outcomes, and ultimately saving and extending lives! If you weren’t able to watch the special when it aired, it is not too late; just click here to catch a recording of the entire special.

Because of YOU and your commitment to CARE – always and in all ways – we continue to prove that when it comes to Getting Healthcare Right, no one does it better than our TriHealth Team!! Thank you for helping us bring better care, better health, and better value to every patient we serve, every day!
