Jeremiah Kirkland, President and Chief Operating Officer of Bethesda Butler Hospital & McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital, represented TriHealth proudly at the 2024 Think Tank on Equity and Inclusion held Tuesday, June 18, at the Hard Rock Casino Conference Center.
Jeremiah served on the panel “Addressing Social Determinants of Health” along with the United Way and Greater Cincinnati Foundation. The panelists touched on strategies and actions taken to address social determinants of health, which are conditions in the community where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health and quality-of-life outcomes and risks.
Jeremiah shared details on the life-changing impact of “School to Work”, the Cincinnati Public School partnership program he created at TriHealth, where students get hands-on experience inside TriHealth hospitals and receive scholarships to support their aspiring health care career. He also discussed the creation of the TriHealth Center for Health Equity and how this unique group is coming together to help eliminate health disparities in the Cincinnati community. He highlighted Good Samaritan Hospital and Bethesda North Hospital receiving a first-of-its-kind certification by “Mama Certified” in infant care for their progress in creating inclusive and equitable experiences for Black mothers and babies. He concluded with the importance of needing inclusion in every aspect of health care, which involves more cultural awareness for health care workers and thoughtfully tailored resources to ensure every patient feels seen and heard.
Thank you for addressing social determinants in health care. I am proud of TriHealth's commitment to support our community through on the job training. #TriHealthstrong
