Getting Healthcare Right
Latest Podcast Explores Emerging Role of Nurse Practitioners in Achieving the Triple Aim
As we continue to accelerate our efforts to get healthcare right – right care, right place, right cost – the nurse practitioner (NP) is emerging as a central role in our evolving care delivery models. And, it’s vitally important that as nurse practitioners necessarily take on expanded roles in collaborating with physicians to provide patient care, we also educate the community about why this is occurring and how it directly benefits patients.

These were the topics discussed on our latest Getting Health Care Right podcast by Renee Canfield, MSN, RN, FNP-C, TriHealth Physician Partners (TPP) – Group Health West Chester internal medicine nurse practitioner, and Chadd Todd, MD, TPP – Group Health West Chester internal medicine physician.

Dr. Todd and Renee share their unique perspectives about the value of incorporating nurse practitioners into the primary care model and the many benefits it brings to patients, the practice, and providers, including:
  • Expanded patient access to the right care in the right place – close to home in their own PCP office.
  • Expanded services and better coordination of care – the NP serves as an extension of the physician to enhance communication, collaboration, and quality of care.
  • Reduction in unnecessary ED and other utilization – which lowers costs for both patients and the system and frees up ED access for those who need it most.
  • Greater ability for nurse practitioners to practice at the top of their skills and license – creating more rewarding career growth and fulfillment.

TriHealth Hospitals Recognized for Superior Clinical Performance by Healthgrades
As another shining proof point that TriHealth is leading the way in Getting Healthcare Right, I’m excited to share that our two flagship tertiary care hospitals – Bethesda North Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital – were both recognized with 2023 Specialty Excellence Awards by Healthgrades.

Healthgrades evaluates nearly 4,500 U.S. hospitals across 17 specialty care areas using publicly reported Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data from a rolling three-year period to determine top performers that are recognized each year with such awards. These awards recognize hospitals for demonstrating superior clinical performance and consistently exceptional patient outcomes. Bethesda North was recognized as one of Healthgrades’ 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care, Stroke Care, Pulmonary Care, GI Care, GI Surgery, and Critical Care. Good Sam was a Five-Star Recipient for treatment of Heart Failure, Treatment of Sepsis, and Treatment of Respiratory Failure. Congratulations to all of our Bethesda North and Good Sam physicians and team members for your hard work and incredible talents that resulted in yet another impressive industry recognition for being among the best of the best – Way to Go!!!

Last Chance to Get Your Flu Shot
Doing all that we can to protect our patients and each other from harm is a shared TriHealth value and central to our work of creating a High Reliability Organization on a Journey to Zero Harm. One of the simplest, yet most effective ways we can do this is to get a flu shot each year. And, as you’ve likely seen or heard in the news recently, the prediction of a severe flu season is proving to be true, coupled with lingering COVID transmission and rising cases of RSV. This means getting your flu shot is more important than ever! So, as has been our practice for nearly 10 years, we require that all TriHealth team members, physicians, and volunteers receive an annual flu vaccine and the deadline is fast approaching – this Friday, November 4. Getting your flu shot continues to be fast, free, and easy, so please make every effort to get yours this week! You can receive your flu shot at any of our five TriHealth Employee Health flu clinics, your physician’s office, or from another community vendor. Visit Bridge for complete information.

Thank you for doing your part to protect yourself, your colleagues, your loved ones, and all those we serve!

Benefits Enrollment Now Open
Our annual open enrollment period for benefits kicked off yesterday and runs through November 11, 2022. This is your once-a-year opportunity to review and adjust your benefit elections to best meet your family’s health and wellbeing needs in 2023. Please be sure to review your choices carefully and make any necessary changes before the deadline. Visit Bridge for complete details.

Engagement Pulse and Safety Survey Launches Next Week
Central to our ability to foster the best work and practice environments for our team members and physicians is regularly asking for and hearing your feedback about what’s working well and what we can do better. This provides us with the “situational awareness” and insights that are needed to both track our progress and take the right actions to continue to make TriHealth a great place to work and practice for our team members and practitioners.

So, please mark your calendars for next Monday, November 7 – Friday, November 18 and plan to participate in the 2022 Engagement Pulse and Safety Survey. This brief survey will take less than five minutes to complete, but will provide invaluable insights about how we’re doing with respect to wellness and benefits, teamwork, inclusion, leadership communication, and our TriHealth culture of safety and high reliability. Thank you, in advance, for sharing your thoughts!!

COVID Update
We remain encouraged that the COVID case rates in Hamilton County and across the country continue to trend below the “acceptable” level of 100 new cases/100,000 population per week – now at just over 78/100,000, with ALL counties remaining at “low” transmission levels. Here at TriHealth, we currently have 29 COVID-positive patients in our hospitals, with three patients on a ventilator (see sidebar graphic for details).

Thank you for all you do to help us lead the way in Getting Healthcare Right, proving every day the power of ONE Team, TriHealth STRONG!!
