TriHealth and the Mayfield Clinic have formalized an agreement to provide expanded, comprehensive community-based neurosurgery services to patients at both Bethesda North and Good Samaritan, and to the TriHealth system.

Mayfield Clinic, a national leader in clinical care and research of the spine and brain, will provide clinical coverage for Bethesda North's Level 3 trauma program and for Good Samaritan and its long-standing Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit. Mayfield will also support the Joint Commission (TJC) certified Primary Stroke Centers at both hospitals.

"This agreement brings tremendous value to both organizations and to the community," said Jerry Oliphant, chief operating officer.

"We have a long history of collaboration, and this agreement solidifies our commitment to the highest quality care for the many patients who choose TriHealth hospitals for neurosurgical care each year."

The agreement also includes leadership, research and educational components:

• Dr. Andrew Ringer, a Mayfield neurosurgeon, will serve as medical director of Neurosurgery for the TriHealth Surgical Institute.
• Dr. Marc Orlando, a long-standing physiatrist with Group Health will join Mayfield on July 1. He will serve as medical director of Spine Care in the TriHealth Orthopedic and Spine Institute.
• Mayfield physicians will coordinate and participate in the physician panels that include neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons for both Bethesda North and Good Samaritan.
• TriHealth will continue to be a supporting partner in neurosurgery graduate medical education, led by Mayfield physicians, through their affiliation with the UC Department of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Arthur Arand, Mayfield's chairman, also sees this agreement as an extension of a rich history shared by the two organizations.

"Mayfield and TriHealth have played major roles in the development of neurosurgery in Greater Cincinnati.  In fact, Good Samaritan first recruited our founder, Dr. Frank H. Mayfield, to Cincinnati back in 1937.  We are proud to continue this tradition."

By working more closely together, both TriHealth and Mayfield will be able to better focus on quality improvement, performance improvement, and further development of neurosurgery and spine services at TriHealth facilities.
