With help from TriHealth team members, who generously donated more than 800 books and additional resources during a collection in March and April, TriHealth Young Professionals will open a book nook for young readers in East Price Hill.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and community block party are planned for 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Santa Maria Community Services Center, 3301 Warsaw Ave., where the new TriHealth Nook for Books is located. The public is invited to view the book nook, as well as stay for snacks, children's games, read-alongs and an appearance from Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals mascots.
TYP, a team member resource group, chose to partner with Santa Maria Community Services to build, stock and maintain a book nook to encourage childhood literacy and show continued commitment to the Price Hill neighborhood where the Good Samaritan Free Health Center is located.
Santa Maria Community Services serves more than 4,000 individuals a year in the Price Hill and Sedamsville-Riverside area, offering educational programs tied to affordable housing, health and wellness and youth development and education.
The book nook adds to these programs by providing children age 7 and younger with an inviting, comfortable place to read with their family members and friends. In addition, children are welcome to take books home with them.
In the future, TYP plans to keep the book nook stocked, and volunteers will read to children once a month.
