As part of the strategic priority to build “One Physician Community” at TriHealth, we are ready to announce the appointment of two new TriHealth system physician leaders. Following a rigorous peer interview and selection process, Bryan Strader, MD, has been selected to serve as the next Physician Executive for TriHealth Physician Partners. And Stephen Cleves, MD, has been selected to serve in the newly created role of System Chief for Primary Care (Adult Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Pediatrics) – and the Physician Executive for the Primary Care Institute, one of our eight system service lines. Both of these appointments will be effective in July, following Board endorsement. In addition to their new leadership roles, Drs. Strader and Cleves will continue to maintain an active clinical practice.

Dr. Strader replaces Tom Tami, MD, who made the decision to return full-time to his medical practice later this summer, in preparation for staged practice transition and eventual retirement in coming years. Dr. Strader will also continue to serve in his current role as the System Chief for Inpatient Medicine. Dr. Strader joined TriHealth as a hospitalist in 2006, and has taken on increasing levels of leadership responsibility over the years. During this time, he’s held the positions of Physician Executive of the Inpatient Institute and Physician Director of Hospitalist Services. As a long-standing member of the TriHealth physician community, Dr. Strader is uniquely qualified – and keenly appreciates the enormous opportunity – to continue to build and strengthen a unified TPP physician culture. Dr. Strader is also passionate about advancing TriHealth’s vision and strategy to adopt a population health model of care. His energy and enthusiasm, combined with his proven leadership track record, make him well-equipped to lead TPP into the future.

Dr. Cleves is first and foremost a dedicated primary care physician who values, and is energized by, his long-standing relationships with patients. He is also genuinely passionate about helping to bring the joy of clinical practice back to medicine at this time of unprecedented physician burnout and practice frustration. Dr. Cleves has been a member of the Good Sam and TriHealth Medical Staff for more than 25 years. He began as a solo practitioner, then developed and honed his physician leadership skills for nearly 20 years as the lead Physician Executive (CEO/President) of the independent Queen City primary care group, comprised of more than 50 providers (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Pediatrics). Today, he is a member of the TriHealth population health steering team, and has played an instrumental role in establishing our unique health and wellness partnership with Xavier University. All of this experience makes Steve uniquely qualified for this new and vital role of helping to lead TriHealth’s primary care expansion and population health strategies. He will work closely with other System Chiefs, including Diane Dolensky, MD, Lorraine Stephens, MD, and Joe Bailey, MD – and the nearly 300 primary care providers at TriHealth.

Drs. Strader and Cleves were the unanimous choices of the interviewing teams, following a thorough candidate review and evaluation process that included interviews with executive and physician leadership, peers, and TPP. This highly collaborative and inclusive selection process will also be followed as we consider candidates for the System Chief for our Musculoskeletal service line.

Congratulations to Drs. Strader and Cleves on their new roles, and thank you to Dr. Tami for the essential foundational leadership as our very first Physician Executive for TriHealth Physician Partners. All three of these physicians have long been unwavering supporters of TriHealth, while advocating for the needs of our physicians, caregivers, and most importantly, our patients.
