We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ronald Merkel as the new Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Bethesda North Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, replacing Dr. John Samol who stepped down from this position July of 2018.  We would like to thank Dr. Samol for his excellent leadership as the Bethesda North Department Chairman and look forward to his continued leadership in the department in other capacities.

Dr. Merkel was selected from a highly qualified group of candidates by the selection committee which was composed of clinical leaders, colleagues, and administrative leaders. Dr. Merkel is a general Obstetrician/Gynecologist and member of TriHealth Physician Practices.  He has been a member of the teaching faculty at Bethesda North since completing his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at TriHealth in 2015.  He is also a member of the Departmental Quality Assurance committee.  Prior to completing medical school at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Merkel was an engineer employed by the Ford Motor Company and Ethicon Endo-Surgery.  As part of his new role, Dr. Merkel will join the Women’s Service Line Leadership team.
