After 37 years of dedicated service to TriHealth, Mary Pat Gilligan, executive director of perioperative nursing for TriHealth, has taken a position with Mission Health in Ashville, North Carolina. With her husband having retired last year and her children grown, Mary Pat said it was the right time to consider the next step on her personal and professional journey. She has agreed to stay with TriHealth until mid-October.

Mary Pat said Mission Health sought her out particularly because of the strong reputation of TriHealth’s perioperative services. Mary Pat played a large role in helping perioperative services build that reputation. Among her many accomplishments during her tenure at TriHealth, she initiated a brief and debrief process within Perioperative Services to enhance communication and teamwork; rebuilt a team of managers, assistant nurse managers, educators and ancillary staff to support the Perioperative departments; and collaborated with the orthopedic center of excellence coordinator to support an initiative for team building “One Team One Dream.”  In addition, the Perioperative Surgical Home and the TriHealth Surgical Optimization Center (TSOC) has been recognized nationally for its impact on reduction in surgical site infections, readmissions and length of stay while improving the surgical experience for patients and their families.

Mary Pat started as a staff RN at Good Samaritan in 1981. Since then, she has held several leadership roles at Bethesda North, Good Samaritan and for the entire system, including manager of the North Ambulatory Surgery Center and Perioperative Systems, director of perioperative services at Good Samaritan and her current role of executive director of perioperative nursing for the system.

We will celebrate Mary Pat’s contributions to TriHealth at a later date, but I wanted to make you all aware of her decision. Please join me in wishing her well on her continuing journey.
