TriHealth Bridge

August 30, 2018

After five years of leading TriHealth’s Physician Hospital Organization (TPHO), Laura Trice, MD, has announced her intent to return to medical practice, effective Sept. 28. With her expertise in internal medicine, geriatrics, hospice and palliative care, Laura’s medical skills are in high demand, and she indicated to me that it felt like the right time in her career to step back from an administrative role and return to medicine.

Laura joined TriHealth more than 20 years ago and for the first 15 years she was an advocate and caregiver for frail, low-income seniors through TriHealth’s SeniorLink. She also worked in post-acute care as a member of the GEROS Medical Group.

Five years ago, TriHealth asked Laura to assume the presidency of the TriHealth Physician Hospital (TPHO), an organization of employed and independent physicians committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective health services through value-based contracts. After laying a stable foundation, Laura’s team – in conjunction with our managed care team and others – rapidly grew the organization in terms of the number of physicians and covered lives. Under Laura’s leadership, that fledging organization has grown to more than 1,100 physicians in the Cincinnati area, six hospitals, 57 post-acute care facilities and three centers for ancillary services. TPHO has seen the number of lives it manages grow from just over 5,500 in 2015 to 248,000 today. That organization is a cornerstone of our population health strategy and a shining example of getting health care right for our community.

We will start the process to find Laura’s replacement immediately and hope to have things wrapped up in the coming weeks.

Please join me in thanking Laura for her service to TriHealth and the Cincinnati community.
