Bethesda North has agreed to lease space to Regency Hospital, a long-term acute care hospital now located on the site of the former Deaconess Hospital.

Regency provides acute critical care for patients whose complex or catastrophic illness or injury requires longer care (20 to 30 days) than a typical hospital stay, filling the gap between short-term acute care and skilled nursing homes. Regency will renovate a section of Bethesda North’s ground floor where rehabilitation is now located. Rehab will move to the 6th floor.

Patients transferred to Regency from Bethesda North will benefit from consistency with their attending physicians. They will also have convenient access to specialist physicians and services, such as radiology, without leaving the Bethesda North campus. Regency admits patients from all area hospitals, and the company also operates a hospital at Good Samaritan.

Regency, part of Select Medical, will move to Bethesda North from its Deaconess site in July. Renovation will soon begin on the ground floor of Bethesda North.
