Hi Team!

Fall is now in full gear – with cooler temperatures finally arriving and our Bengals off to an encouraging start with two wins in three games! At TriHealth, the end of September marks the completion of the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2019 (FY2019), with a number of important milestones to report on:

Wins

  • Good Samaritan Hospital earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Brain Tumor Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. Good Samaritan Hospital underwent a rigorous on-site review by Joint Commission experts who evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards and brain tumor-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures were also assessed. The certification is awarded for a two-year period and sets Good Samaritan apart as a regional and national leader in brain tumor care – 1st in Ohio and 3rd in the nation!

  • Jeff Norton, from UC Health, joins TriHealth as senior leader of our new TriHealth Institute for Safety, Reliability, and Clinical Performance Improvement. Jeff served as Chief Performance Officer at UC Health since 2014. The creation of the Institute – and the appointment of Jeff to this new role – demonstrates TriHealth’s unwavering commitment to keep safety, reliability, and exceptional clinical performance at the center of all we do.

Leaders and team members engage in discussions about new healthcare realities and how best to support our FY2019 work. Back in late June, I devoted my Monthly Update to sharing our system Strategic Plan Refresh, as well as our FY2019 Strategic Initiatives and System Pillar Goals. Recognizing that these system-level messages require local-level perspective and discussion in order to be understandable and actionable, I enlisted all TriHealth leaders to join me in cascading these important messages to their teams – and to keep the conversations going throughout FY2019.

Since that time, I’ve heard from more than 500 leaders on how these initial team conversations have gone. This feedback has provided valuable insights regarding what team members and physicians are thinking and feeling about these new healthcare realities, our strategic priorities, and the work underway to move TriHealth from good to great. Some of the more common topics of discussion included:

• Communication and Transparency
• Controlling Our Destiny in light of these New Healthcare Realities
• Adapting to Changing Consumer Expectations
• Building a Culture of Safety and High Reliability

I want to thank our leaders for organizing – and our team members and physicians for actively participating in –these important discussions about the forces reshaping healthcare and how TriHealth is proactively responding. It is only through shared understanding and commitment – and ultimately full team member and physician engagement in the work – that we can succeed on our journey to lead the way in getting healthcare right, which means delivering better care, better health, and better value to all those we serve.

More than 3,500 team members participate in Fall HR Forums. I hope you took the opportunity to attend one of our HR Forums held over the past two weeks to learn more about our new Total Rewards program, our HR Service Center, and the latest progress within our Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. The sessions were highly interactive, with much of the time spent answering questions and soliciting team member feedback. Look for a summary report of the HR Forums and top Q&As on LinkNet in October.

The Weekly Communication Update debuts to positive reviews. On September 10, in response to team member feedback for more streamlined communications, we launched ‘the Weekly Update’ – a new at-a-glance summary of all that’s new each week at TriHealth, with links to drill down and learn more. After just three weeks in circulation, we’re getting lots of unsolicited praise about the new tool for being informative, quick, and easy to read. We’re pleased it’s helping to keep you informed – without slowing you down! Look for the Weekly Update each Monday in your inbox, often times including a short note from your leader.

TriHealth makes it easier for team members to get healthy and fit. At TriHealth, our commitment to improve the health of the communities we serve starts with our own team member and physician community. And you’ve told us that cost and time are two big barriers to improving your health. To minimize these obstacles, this month, we lowered the LifeStyles Fitness Center monthly membership fee to $5 (just $2.50 per paycheck!) and opened two new onsite facilities at Baldwin and Norwood! Now you can choose from four convenient onsite fitness centers (at Bethesda North, Good Samaritan, Baldwin, and Norwood) – at a monthly cost that’s less than a cup of coffee and a bagel! Plus, plans are in development to modernize and upgrade the fitness centers at Good Sam and Bethesda North – giving all team members and physicians convenient access to the best facilities and classes. We’re proud to do our part to make it as easy as possible for you to get and stay healthy and fit – and now it’s your turn! Sign up today at www.trihealthlifestyles.com, and I look forward to seeing you at one of our Fitness Centers!

...And speaking of health, remember to get your flu shot! Along with all of the fun festivities that fall brings, also comes the onset of the dangerous, and often deadly, flu season. As a reminder, all TriHealth team members – clinical and non-clinical – are required to receive a flu vaccination by November 2. It’s free, easy and protects our patients and our TriHealth team. So please be sure to do your part and get vaccinated before the November 2 deadline – safety cannot be an option! Learn more on LinkNet.

Have a great weekend and thank you for all you do to make TriHealth great!
