clement-markHi Team!

Happy Halloween!

I hope you’ve had plenty of opportunities this month to enjoy the fall season and all of the fun activities that come with it!  Here at TriHealth, October has been filled with a number of key actions and initiatives that are building on our promise to get healthcare right for our community – better care, better health and better value for all those we serve.  Following are a few important highlights:

SYSTEM WINS

  • The Cardiac Programs at Good Sam and Bethesda North recognized by Becker’s as two of the Nation’s 100 Great Heart Programs
  • Pioneering Cardiac Ablation Procedure – 1st of its kind in the U.S. – performed on two TriHealth patients at Bethesda North
  • Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) embarks on its own journey from good to great modeled after our TriHealth Way culture transformation work and successes – click here to view the TriHealth story that was captured in a video to help kick off the CHI journey.

TriHealth Takes the Lead to Address Opioid Crisis in Our Community
Sadly, but true, opioid addiction has become a nationwide epidemic, and no family is immune to its devastating effects.  And unfortunately, Ohio – our own backyard – has become ground zero for this crisis, as we’re experiencing addiction and death rates far higher than the national average.  As a health system that has pledged to get healthcare right for our community, we have a special obligation to attack this epidemic head on – and that’s exactly what we’re doing!  Just over three months ago, I assembled an Opioid Crisis Task Force to identify how best to elevate our system’s response across four key focus areas:  prevention, treatment, community partnerships and care of our team members.  Recognizing the sense of urgency, this team has made great progress – here’s what’s been accomplished so far:

  • Developed a targeted action plan through the task force, which will evolve into a permanent TriHealth Steering Team to oversee ongoing implementation
  • Committed $200,000 to fund in collaboration with other community organizations Community Health initiative intended to provide greater community awareness of, and access to, specialized medical intervention and resuscitation  medications to reduce deaths due to overdose and support long-term recovery
  • Launched and funded a pilot partnership with Bright View (a locally based national model for medically assisted recovery and treatment) to establish seamless transfer protocols from Good Samaritan to Bright View Rehab for addicts who are brought to our ED; and to train Good Samaritan ED Staff and ALL TriHealth ED physicians to use these protocols consistently.   Plans call for expanding this pilot to TriHealth’s other emergency departments as we refine and perfect this model.
  • Established provider work teams to dramatically reduce narcotic prescriptions through use of alternative pain management medications and practices

A very heartfelt thank you to our extremely dedicated TriHealth clinical teams who are working tirelessly on the frontlines fighting what feels like an overwhelming crisis every day in our emergency departments, community clinics and hospitals.  Your “above and beyond” values-led care and concern for the well-being these opioid addicted patients and their families has not gone unnoticed – and will be further supported in the coming months as we expand system-wide oversight and dedicated resources to address this epidemic.  We’ll share more about our plans and progress throughout the year in my Monthly Updates, in department meetings and at Team Member Forums.

Your Feedback is a Gift that Makes TriHealth and Our Team Great!
The common denominator across all of our “good to great” transformation work is team member input and feedback – which has served as the guidepost to help shape our plans and assess our progress.  This fall, we’re continuing to reach out to you to get your thoughts and perspectives about how to take the next best steps forward to make TriHealth a great place to work, to practice and to receive care:

Total Rewards Survey Update
Earlier this month, we conducted a Total Rewards Survey to obtain your important input about how to modernize our team member Total Rewards offerings across Benefits, Compensation and Career Development in ways that will best meet the needs and desires of you and your families.  The participation response was excellent – 50% of our team members completed the survey, which closed last week.  This high response rate provides reliable and representative data from which we can continue to evolve our Total Rewards program and better tailor it to the needs of our people.  The analysis of survey results is now underway and we will share feedback and how we plan to respond at our next series of Team Member Forums, which are being moved to January, in order to give us the time needed to compile, analyze and begin to apply survey findings.

Leadership Effectiveness Assessment (LEA)
Back in February, we conducted our first Leadership Effectiveness Assessment (LEA) to find out what you thought about the TriHealth Way of Leading and how well leaders were doing in adopting and consistently applying these evidence-based practices.  The results were shared with all leaders, providing us with valuable insights about what we’re doing well and where we can improve.  And that feedback helped leaders to improve their skills, which ultimately led to better team member engagement as measured by our engagement survey.

Starting today (October 31) through November 15, we are conducting a follow up LEA – which is now live in Success Factors – to help us assess how we’re doing at mastery and consistent adoption of the TriHealth Way practices. (McCullough-Hyde team members will receive a separate follow-up email with a link to complete the survey.)  Your feedback is truly a gift, so I ask that you please take the time to complete this important confidential survey at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for all you do to SERVE our patients, family members and each other, every day!  Have a fun and safe Halloween with your families!
