Thank you for your commitment to our journey to lead the way in becoming the region’s only fully integrated, patient-centered system of care that gets healthcare right for our community – better care, better health and better value…and the health system where our team members and physicians most want to work and practice, and our community increasingly chooses to receive healthcare.
Over the last two years, our work as a system has been focused on three major areas:
1. CULTURE: Building the foundation of a unified, high performing TriHealth Culture across our nearly 150 sites of care through adoption of the TriHealth Way of Leading, Serving, and Delivering Care
2. DELIVERY SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION: Advancing the work of our Strategic Plan aimed at preparing TriHealth to lead the way in delivering consumer focused care in a population health and value-based care environment
3. OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE: Relentlessly working to improve our performance in all five Pillars (People/Culture, Service, Safety/Quality, Growth, Finance)
Engagement Survey Results Highlight Sustained Improvement and New Opportunities
An essential requirement for success in each of these core strategies is having highly engaged team members and physicians who understand and believe in where the organization is headed – and feel energized, valued, and empowered as active contributors to this important work.
We are pleased to share that our 2018 Engagement Surveys show that we held or improved upon much of the gains from 2016, and that our overall results remain well above the national average. Once again, we had record participation – 83% - and although we experienced a modest decline in overall engagement from 4.24 to 4.20 (out of 5), we saw strong performance in many keys areas:
• 62 of 65 engagement questions scored significantly above the healthcare norm,
• 8 of our 23 locations improved their engagement scores,
• TPP physician engagement improved from the 27 percentile to the 67 percentile
• Action Plan Readiness (APR) score increased to 89. This score measures the degree to which team members trust leadership to make changes in response to the survey feedback. So you are telling us you believe we can and will build on our strong engagement in the year ahead!
It is important to note that TriHealth has held most of the significant gains in engagement we have achieved since 2016 when engagement was at the 26th percentile, in spite of unprecedented organizational and industry change. This means we are actually in a very strong position to see continued improvement in the year ahead with the right focus and consistent application of the TriHealth Way of Leading principles and practices.
What We Learned:
The Team Member Engagement Survey results provide valuable insights into where you believe TriHealth has made important strides that need to be maintained and where we have new opportunities for improvements. We will be working with leaders across the system over the next several months to develop and implement action plans for each department or work unit to help us reinforce what’s working well, and continue to strengthen and enhance areas needing improvement.
What’s working well that we will continue to build upon:
• Manager cares about job satisfaction
• Career development opportunities
• Senior Management’s actions support mission and values
Areas of continued focus for the upcoming year include:
• Leading the Way to Zero – Safety, Quality, and Reliability
• Strengthening the cascade of important information from senior leadership to team members
• Creating an even more inclusive team based culture and environment
What’s Next?
In early August, our more than 800 TriHealth leaders began meeting with their team members to cascade and share survey results for the overall system and your department. The purpose of these meetings is to seek your input in order to help validate and build support for local improvement priorities within your department or unit, and then identify – with team member input and support – possible action steps to address these priorities. Over the next year, your leaders will work with you to implement these action plans, and we will measure progress along the way through periodic “pulse” surveys. At the same time, we are working with system leadership to establish our priorities and develop action plans to address identified system-wide improvement opportunities based on survey results. We will share these plans and periodic progress updates throughout the year at Team Member Forums, in Mark Clement’s Monthly Updates, and in Department Meetings.
Our ability to remain true to our mission of improving the health of those we serve begins with making TriHealth a great place for you--our team members--to work and ultimately the health system our patients and community choose to receive care. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with such clear results from which we can continue to improve and grow!
