Are you interested in impacting the education and preparation of a nursing student and potential future team member? TriHealth has many requests for Role Transition Preceptors from area nursing schools. You may be able to help if you meet the qualifications and your manager agrees to have a role transition student on your unit.
Some things to know:

  • Role transition experiences generally occur during the final semester of nursing school.
  • The hours required vary by program but can range from 120 to 220 hours during the semester. Occasionally fewer than 120 hours are required.
  • Students are expected to assume the schedule/shift of the preceptor they are assigned to work with and they receive orientation and THC Training for the role prior to coming to the unit to work with their preceptor.
  • A Role Transition Preceptor must be a licensed RN for two years and have a minimum of one year experience in the specialty area where they precept a Role Transition student.
  • The student will work side by side under the guidance of their Role Transition Preceptor providing patient care.
  • A Role Transition Preceptor can use the experience of being a preceptor for a role transition student in Clinical Ladder advancement.
  • Nursing Administration provides a gift card to nurses who precept a role transition student.

If you are interested in being a preceptor for a role transition student, please discuss with your manager or educator. They will inform the Student Placement Coordinator of your interest. If a match is made, your manager will be informed of the student assignment.
