Consults to the Diabetes Advisory Team can now be placed at both Bethesda North and Good Samaritan for patients with:

  • HgA1C greater than 9
  • Consistently high or low blood sugars while hospitalized
  • Assistance with discharge medication plans.

All diabetic patients receive education from the staff nurses as needed.  The Diabetes Advisory Team provides medication management to improve blood glucose control while allowing the primary team to focus on other acute issues. Consults should be placed in TriHealth Connect (EPIC).  Additionally, a Diabetes Resource Nurse committee has been formed to help promote diabetes awareness on units at both Bethesda North and Good Samaritan.

Why is this important?

Diabetes and pre-diabetes affects nearly 100 million people in the United States costing $245 billion dollars each year. Uncontrolled blood sugars in the inpatient setting lead to longer hospital stays, increased infection rates, and higher overall mortality.
