The TriHealth Hatton Research Institute hosted the annual Hatton Research Institute Competition Thursday, May 15, at Good Samaritan, recognizing outstanding work completed by our health care professionals.

The competition was established to stimulate medical research by TriHealth attending and resident physicians, fellows, allied health professionals and nurses. First-, second- and third-place winners are chosen in two divisions.

Judges for the competition were Nancy Bevan MSN, APRN, ACNS-BC; Tom Imhoff Pharm.D., BCPS; and Michelle Louis MD.

Winners

Staff Physician/Fellow/Nurse/Allied Health Professional Division:

  • First place: Mark Snyder MD, Department of Orthopaedics, for "Bupivacaine Liposome Suspension versus a Concentrated Multi Drug Periarticular Injection in 70 Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty without Femoral Nerve Block: A Double-Blinded Randomized Clinical Trial"
  • Second place: Susan Oakley MD, Department of OB/Gyn, for "Resident Burnout Following ACGME Duty Hour Restrictions: A Cross-Sectional Survey"
  • Third place: Donna Mazloomdoost MD, Department of OB/Gyn, for "Characteristics of Women Presenting for Mesh-related Complications"

Resident Physician Division:

  • First Place: Rachel Sinkey MD, Department of OB/Gyn, for "Gomco versus Mogen: Which is Best? A Randomized Controlled Trial: The GMRT Study"
  • Second Place: Ronald Merkel MD, Department of OB/Gyn, for "Association of Fetal Abdominal-Head Circumference Size Difference With Shoulder Dystocia: A Multi-Center Study"
  • Third Place: Jennifer Yeung DO, Department of OB/Gyn, for "Appropriate Timing of Prophylactic Antibiotics at Cesarean Delivery: Perspectives from an Academic Community Hospital"
