Last month, two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Young Samaritans at Good Samaritan.

Congratulations to Emily Heine of Seton High School and Kathryn Van Curen of Highlands High School.

Emily was recently accepted into the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Connections Dual Admissions Program. In one of her essays, Emily shared, “Volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital has had a remarkable affect on my life in many ways. I have learned the true value of serving others, gained unmatched knowledge, formed various connections and relationships and cemented my desire to become a physician.”

Katie plans to attend Miami University in the fall. She is not only an active volunteer at Good Samaritan, but also put together her own team for Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Katie said, “I have found that regardless of your background, race, income or religious beliefs, the Good Samaritan Volunteer Department will accept and nurture you so long as you come in with an open heart and open mind.”

Thank you to those who help make the department what it is today.

These scholarships are funded through The Good Samaritan Guild. Winners were chosen based on amount of volunteer hours, grade point average, application responses, reference letters and their essays.
