TriHealth Bridge

October 20, 2014

The new Mohs Surgical Unit with Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Dermatology began seeing patients Monday, Oct. 20.

A first for TriHealth and Group Health, the Mohs facility is located on the sixth-floor connector between Good Samaritan and Group Health's Pharmacy on the Good Samaritan campus in Clifton.

Jennifer Walker MD will treat patients with skin cancers, collaborating with Group Health's facial reconstructive surgeons and dermatology physicians to provide comprehensive skin cancer care.

Mohs surgery is an extremely effective technique for removing basal cell and squamous cell cancers, the two most common skin cancers. Mohs surgery differs from other techniques in that microscopic examination of excised tissues occurs during surgery, rather than after, allowing the surgeon to spare as much normal tissue as possible.

"As the diagnosis of skin cancer is becoming epidemic in the United States, Group Health is excited to offer this important service," said Toby Mathias MD, Group Health division director of Dermatology.

"The expansion of the Dermatology Department to include the services of Mohs procedures has been a vision of ours for years."
