Almost every day, physicians, nurses and patient representatives at Bethesda North encounter patients who need help with items above and beyond their hospital stay, such as walkers or medication.

The Patient Emergency Fund, formerly known as the Light Up a Life Fund, is funded entirely by contributions and provides financial support to Bethesda North patients in need.

For example, a recent patient was advised to get a walker upon discharge because he falls frequently. His nurse, who knew he could not afford the expense, filled out the Patient Emergency Fund Request Form found on LinkNet and submitted it to the manager of Service Excellence at Bethesda North. Soon, the patient had a new walker and his family could breathe a sigh of relief.
