Chris (Delolis) Bowman of Environmental Services and Tom Laverty of Nutrition have been named the Good Samaritan Firestarters' No. 1 Team Member for November and December, respectively.

Chris has been described by co-workers as unflappable, calm, relaxed and friendly while working on the psychiatric unit. Patients on this unit need full attention while they walk, eat and drink, so Chris' job is never finished.

Co-workers say she's an excellent observer and often reports patient-safety issues. In addition, she maintains relationships with patients and is respectful of problems and difficulties they bring to the unit.

The environment sometimes is stressful and her friendliness and commitment to patients and staff is outstanding. Chris, a team member of 31 years, deserves this recognition, co-workers say.

Tom has been described as a "ray of sunshine to our team members and expecially our patients and families."

His co-workers say he is a team player and is enthusiastically contagious. They've seen Tom help patients and co-workers and several occasions, and he's frequently asking, "What can I do for you."

Those around him see him spread cheer throughout the cafeteria; he connects with everyone that comes through and will go above and beyond to ensure your day is successful. Many look forward to breakfast because they know Tom will be behind the grill with an infectious smile.

Co-workers say he's a true team player and role model and his customer service skills are impeccable.
