Bethesda North has been named one of the top 100 hospitals in the country by Truven Health Analytics, based on an analysis of Medicare and Medicaid data.

This marks the fifth time Bethesda North has been recognized as one of the Truven Top 100 Hospitals.

"Winning the award once is quite an achievement, and something we were proud to do many years ago, but to win five times is a direct reflection of a culture that has been created between our physicians, nurses and team members of continuous performance and improvement for our patients," said John Prout, president and CEO.

The Truven 100 Top Hospitals analysis identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard that weighs public data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid across 10 performance areas.

The list of Top 100 Hospitals was announced in the March 3 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.

"Our commitment is to always do the very best for our patients, from both a quality standpoint and a service standpoint, said Barb Boyne, Bethesda North executive director, hospital operations.

"Our team members and physicians deserve the credit for making this happen each and every day at our hospital."

The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:

  • Nearly 165,000 additional lives could be saved
  • Nearly 90,000 additional patients could be complication-free
  • More than $5.4 billion could be saved
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
