The Auxiliary of Bethesda Hospital Inc. recently awarded $1,500 scholarships to two Bethesda North junior volunteers, Matthew Drew and Abhinav Srinath.
Matthew, a Kings High School graduate, has volunteered for nearly three years as a patient escort. He will attend Washington University, St. Louis, and study philosophy, neuroscience and psychology.
Abhinav, a William Mason High School graduate, has volunteered for three years as a patient escort. He will study biomedical engineering, also at Washington University.
Combined, these two junior volunteers have logged more than 600 hours of service at Bethesda North.
In just the past two years, almost 170 junior volunteers from more than 40 area high schools have lent their time and talent to the hospital. Since 1998, the Bethesda Auxiliary has awarded nearly $40,000 in scholarships to more than 30 junior volunteers.
