TriHealth proudly sponsored the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast at the Freedom Center, as well as the MLK March and program at Music Hall. The morning began with reflection and inspiration through words and song at the Freedom Center breakfast, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Wendy Ellis, a Cincinnati native and expert on improving community health by addressing adverse childhood experiences and adverse community environments.
The crowd then gathered outside for prayer and remembrance of the work of MLK and other civil rights pioneers who fought and died for a more equitable society. Despite single-digit temperatures, hundreds of spirited walkers wound through the streets of downtown Cincinnati, carrying banners and singing songs before concluding the march at Washington Park.
Inside Music Hall, a warmer environment awaited the marchers, who were treated to free health screenings by TriHealth, and harmonious songs by the MLK chorale and youth choir. The dynamic keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Hasan Kwame Jefferies, associate professor at The Ohio State University. He reminded the audience that although MLK is famously known for his “I Have a Dream” speech, the bulk of Dr. King’s words and work centered around taking action and holding those in power accountable to create a more just society for all.
Later in the evening, the theme of coming together continued with an event celebrating our employee resource groups (ERGs). High Grain in Finneytown hosted the social, bringing the seven ERGs together for a night of fun. Click here to explore more about the different ERGs and how you can join one or multiple groups. ERGs are open to all team members.
