Hi Team —
Today is April Fools’ Day and I hope that any pranks and practical jokes that come with it are bringing a smile and some lighthearted fun to your day! Here at TriHealth, our progress in Getting Healthcare Right gives us many reasons to smile every day! Here are just a few of the latest reasons why...
Getting Healthcare Right Through an Integrated System of Care and Clinical Centers of Excellence: Behavioral Health
- As part of our continuing series “showcasing” TriHealth’s nationally recognized Centers of Excellence (COEs), today I’m pleased to share how TriHealth is Getting Healthcare Right through expansion of Behavioral Health
- Undiagnosed and untreated mental illness too often results in isolation and loneliness, drug and alcohol abuse, violence, suicide, and other serious medical conditions. And yet much of this is preventable with the right diagnosis, timely and convenient access, and appropriate treatments.
- So in response to the growing – and often undertreated and underfunded – mental health crisis locally and across the country, TriHealth has made it a priority to lead the way in addressing this national crisis head-on, and from many angles, as part of our work to Get Healthcare Right.
- And over the past decade, we’ve made impressive progress, which includes:
- Launching of the region’s only – and one of the first in the nation – Integrated Behavioral Health program in 2016 and later expanding it in 2021 with generous funding from bi3.
- This program integrates Behavioral Health professionals directly into TPP Adult and Pediatric primary care practices, as well as OB/GYN and Oncology practices to support patients, families and providers with real-time, “in-the-moment” behavioral healthcare.
- Additionally, two ambulatory Behavioral Health specialty clinics were established and are now fully operational.
- Developing the Substance Use Treatment Coordination function to guide addiction treatment for more than 2,000 patients annually.
- Completing a $7M renovation of our Good Sam psychiatric units, improving the environment of care and patient throughput, while also creating 24/7 psychiatric intake service in the ED.
- Creating the Psychosocial Oncology Program, a free Behavioral Health service offered to all TriHealth cancer patients undergoing treatment.
- Often patients with cancer feel conflicted about sharing how they truly feel with friends or families, not wanting to burden them. The Psychosocial Oncology Program offers patients a chance to express everything they are feeling to specialists who can help them navigate the emotional toll of cancer.
- For too long there has been a stigma around mental and behavioral health conditions and treatment that has created unnecessary barriers to improving the health of all those we serve.
- These important investments in needed, but often under-reimbursed, services demonstrate once again that we are determined to meet ALL of our patient’s needs, seen and unseen. And this is all to save lives and improve the health and wellbeing of every individual we serve, which is what Getting Healthcare Right is all about!
Advancing the Future of Healthcare Through Innovation, Commitment to Population Health
- A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to join the CEOs of Cincinnati’s five other healthcare systems in a discussion on the “Future of Healthcare,” sponsored by the Cincinnati Business Courier.
- As shared in recent Weekly Updates and Town Hall meetings, the healthcare industry, as a whole, is facing a number of challenges that threaten our shared mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.
- These challenges range from persistent workforce shortages...to federal and state policy changes and anticipated cuts in healthcare funding...to reimbursement rates that do not keep pace with rising costs. Overcoming these challenges requires greater innovation, resourcefulness, and collaboration, which was the topic of this discussion.
- We shared how TriHealth is investing where it matters most – technological innovation/AI to improve care and operational efficiencies, partnerships to drive workforce solutions and, most importantly, our people to ensure we fulfill our promise to deliver “surprisingly human care” and exceptional outcomes always.

Seven Hills Women’s Health Centers Joins TriHealth
- Today, we officially welcome Seven Hills Women's Health Centers – an independent OB-GYN practice with 20 providers and seven centers across Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky – to TriHealth as new TriHealth Physician Partners (TPP) providers!
- These physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners are joining the region’s most comprehensive, preferred and respected provider of women’s services…TriHealth!
- The long-standing tradition of clinical excellence at Seven Hills aligns perfectly with our own patient-centered mission, vision and values, all aimed at delivering exceptional access and care to women at every stage of life and every state of health.
- A special thanks to all of our Women’s Services team members and providers, along with Dr. Kristin Coppage, System Chief for Women’s Services, Dr. Catrina Crisp, TPP Medical Director of Women’s Services, Jeremiah Kirkland, System Executive for Women’s Services, and Marla Silliman, Senior Vice President for the Good Samaritan Region, who have set TriHealth Women’s Services apart from all others, making Seven Hills’ decision to join our system an easy one!
As we begin the final quarter of FY2025, I want to thank you for continuing to work together as ONE Team, TriHealth STRONG, so we can finish the fiscal year on a high note – for each other and all those we serve! While TriHealth is not immune to the ongoing challenges facing the U.S. healthcare industry, what continues to set us apart in our ability to adapt and overcome these challenges is our people – the GREATEST healthcare team anywhere! Because of you, our care is better, our patients are healthier and our community is increasingly choosing TriHealth as their preferred provider for the best care and health outcomes possible.
