Microsoft announced earlier this year that it will no longer support Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. At issue - nearly all the workstations and laptops used at TriHealth are running the Windows 10 operating system.
We've recognized the need to upgrade computers to the Windows 11 operating system and luckily, most of the computers at TriHealth already have the hardware necessary for this upgrade.
Starting December 17, IS will start upgrading all laptops and workstations from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Most of the computers will run through an in-place upgrade that will happen during non-peak hours, and the remaining ones will be replaced with new computer models that can run Windows 11.
Windows 11 Upgrade Procedure:
We will be doing everything we can to minimize disruption to TriHealth staff during the Windows 11 Upgrades, so we need your help to make this go smoothly:
- Please keep your computers on when you leave for the day of your scheduled upgrade. This will ensure upgrades occur when you are away from your computer and not when you are trying to work.
- If you have a laptop that you usually take home, please leave it in the office on the evening of the upgrade (click here for specific date information), plugged in and powered on at the TriHealth login prompt. Otherwise, these devices may get upgraded during business hours. It is essential to have the AC adapter plugged in, as system corruption may occur if the laptop battery dies during the upgrade.
- Upgrades will happen overnight, when most departments and locations are closed. If you work in a 24-hour department like the ED or IPU, please understand that we will do everything we can to minimize disruption, including overnight upgrades. We will NOT upgrade every computer in a single department overnight, so if you need to move to another computer temporarily, please do so.
- The night of the upgrade, the computers will receive a 15-minute reminder message prior to the operating system update. For example, if your update is scheduled for 11:00 PM the end user will receive this message at 10:45 PM:
- If you select “Snooze and remind me” the message will go away, but the installation will commence at the scheduled time. This update cannot be rescheduled due to time and bandwidth constraints. Please finish up any open work, log off and temporarily move to a different workstation. DO NOT POWER THE DEVICE OFF OR SYSTEM CORRUPTION WILL OCCUR.
- This is an automated process like our monthly patching. No one will be coming on-site to perform these upgrades. Your existing data, including desktop icons and bookmarks, will remain intact after the upgrade.
