Getting Healthcare Right
Achieving our bold vision for Getting Healthcare Right means delivering the right care at the right time in the right place in the right way to achieve the right and best outcomes at the right cost. Ultimately, this is how we deliver on the Triple Aim + One – better care, better health and better value for every patient we serve, always... and a better work and practice environment for every team member and physician who serves.

Over the past eight years, we have made remarkable progress in bringing this bold vision to life and taking TriHealth from Good to Great by intentionally focusing our efforts on:

  • Adopting and mastering population health care and financing models,
  • Investing in our high-value network of hospitals, ambulatory sites and clinical service lines,
  • Growing our world-class physician community,
  • Forging innovative, “best-in-class” clinical partnerships, such as with Beacon Orthopedics, Cleveland Clinic and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, among many others,
  • Eliminating health disparities and fostering health equity and belonging, both within TriHealth and throughout the communities we serve, through investment in the Center for Health Equity.

Today, I want to showcase just a few of the latest milestones and proof points that we are headed in the right direction and that YOUR dedication and hard work are paying off...

Good Samaritan Hospital Cellular Therapy Program Receives Accreditation
With last year’s launch of TriHealth’s bone marrow transplant program, the TriHealth Cancer and Blood Institute (TCBI) has also introduced a new and evolving cellular therapies program to treat blood malignancies and solid tumors using immune effector cell technology and other breakthroughs in immunotherapy. Most believe this is the future of cancer treatment, and thanks to our investment in this program TriHealth is leading the way as the region’s most comprehensive and advanced cancer care provider.  This is allowing TriHealth to deliver the right and most advanced care to a growing number of cancer patients who will benefit from cellular and immune therapies.

Unlike traditional therapies, cellular and immunotherapy can “train” the immune system to remember cancer cells. This “immuno-memory” often results in longer-lasting and potentially permanent protection against cancer recurrence. For example, some immunotherapy treatments help the immune system stop or slow the growth of cancer cells. Others help the immune system destroy cancer cells or stop the cancer from spreading to other parts of the body, which offers the possibility for long-term control of cancer.

Just a few weeks ago, the Good Samaritan Hospital Cellular Therapy Program received initial accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) for meeting and exceeding the national standard of excellence in cellular therapy programs, with accreditation in both Immune Effector Cell Therapy and Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant. This accreditation will allow the Cellular Therapy Program to continue to grow and expand into more CAR-T therapies serving even more patients in need as we become a designated center of excellence with commercial payers. This accreditation will also allow us to serve more patients within our system and offer them the highest, most advanced level of care!

Congratulations and a BIG shout out to the physician, nursing and leadership teams at Good Samaritan Hospital 14CD, Emergency Department, Medical ICU, Neuro ICU, and Good Samaritan Infusion Center, along with Dr. James Maher, TriHealth System Chief for Oncology, Dr. Saulius Girnius, Medical Director of the Cellular Therapy Program, and Dr. Samer Alsidawi, Good Samaritan Hematology/Oncology physician (pictured left to right), for their leadership and commitment to bringing the most advanced life-saving cancer therapies to the growing number of cancer patients we serve.

TriHealth Again Honored Among the Nation’s “Most Wired” Healthcare Systems
Foundational to our work of Getting Healthcare Right is our investment in technology and “big data,” which provide actionable insights to support our efforts to deliver the right care in the right way at the right time. And so I’m pleased to share that TriHealth was once again recognized as a “most wired” health system by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).

This extensive survey examines how we are using digital programs and digital health capabilities to modernize healthcare delivery in ways that are improving care and patient outcomes. TriHealth was certified as a Level 9 (with Level 10 being the highest possible) for both acute and ambulatory programs. This year’s award also recognized how TriHealth leverages technological innovations to create and support clinical programs, such as genomics and bone marrow transplant services, which ultimately help drive superior clinical outcomes – in other words, better care, better health, and better value!!

The “big data” capabilities we are building are dramatically improving all aspects of how we deliver care – including scheduling appointments, expanding access, treating patients, sharing information and better managing chronic conditions and health risks. For example, our investments in analytics have significantly increased access to real-time clinical information and actionable insights, which improve care across our system. This is enabling our providers to more quickly identify and respond to unmanaged chronic conditions, close gaps in care and identify and address rising risk. And this results in healthier patients and more affordable care – which is what Getting Healthcare Right is all about!!

New TPP Primary Care Office and Priority Care to Open in Mason
Getting Healthcare Right is also about delivering care at the right time and in the right place, which requires that we make it easy and convenient for our patients to access our world-class care close to home.

So, I am excited to share that our newest TriHealth Physician Partners (TPP) office has opened in the Mason/Kings Mills area. This new practice – led by Drs. Aleesha Montoya and Nathan Wiedemann (pictured right) – will enhance our ability to provide the right care in the right place in the right way within the growing Mason community. The TPP Kings Mills practice is also near our TriHealth Arrow Springs campus where patients can conveniently access diagnostic testing and specialty services.

And in the coming weeks, we will open our seventh TriHealth Priority Care, which will be integrated into our TPP primary care office at the Kings Mills site – furthering our commitment to serve our patients when and where they need us most.

Hispanic Heritage Month Comes to a Close
I hope you had the chance to enjoy the many fun and educational events and activities which have taken place over the past four weeks in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month – from food trucks and Hispanic cuisines in our cafeterias to Hispanic TriHealth leader and physician spotlights and community cultural events. And we’re not done yet! Our DEI+B and TRIBE teams have partnered with the Hispanic Chamber of Cincinnati to provide our TriHealth Team with one more opportunity to make a positive impact before we close out Hispanic Heritage Month. This Saturday, October 14, TriHealth team members will come together for our Community Clean Up Day to landscape, clean, paint and refresh Roberts Academy in Price Hill. If you’re available, please join us for this wonderful opportunity to connect with families in the community, while demonstrating in action our values-led commitment to SERVE. Click here to sign up to volunteer and learn more.

In addition to honoring and celebrating Hispanic culture and history, Hispanic Heritage Month also serves as an important reminder of the healthcare disparities faced by Hispanic communities in our country. According to Kaiser Family Foundation data, non-elderly Hispanic people continue to have some of the highest uninsured rates (20%) across racial/ethnic groups. These higher uninsured rates, underlying social and economic inequities, and language barriers contribute to increased challenges in accessing healthcare and maintaining optimal health. And this is yet another compelling reason for the launch of TriHealth’s Center for Health Equity – all part of our foundational work to Get Healthcare Right!

TriHealth Team Spirit Shines at AHA CycleNation Fundraiser
Last week, I had fun “rounding” on the TriHealth team of physicians, leaders and team members who participated in the American Heart Association’s CycleNation fundraiser at Rhinegeist Brewery. This fun but vitally important annual fundraiser helps provide needed resources for life-saving stroke and heart research and promotes brain and heart health through The American Heart and American Stroke Association.

Our two eight-person cycling teams, led by captains Lori Greiser, TriHealth Executive Director of Surgical Specialties and Neuro Sciences, and Michael Judge, Director of Clinical Operations, TPP Surgical Specialties, raised more than $10,000 for the cause – placing  TriHealth among the top four companies for fundraising! In total, the event raised nearly $400,000 to help fund stroke and heart disease research and awareness – a cause near and dear to our “hearts” as the region’s leading provider of world-class heart and stroke care!! A BIG thank you to our TriHealth cycling team participants, including Drs. Chris Zammit and Andy Ringer – along with ALL those who donated – for once again proving that there’s no limit to our values-led commitment to SERVE and to CARE for our community as ONE Team, TriHealth STRONG!

Mark Your Calendar: October Team Member Town Hall, Tuesday, October 24
