As a mission-drive, values-based healthcare system, TriHealth is committed to caring for the entire community with attention to the marginalized and vulnerable. Seeing all people as sacred, TriHealth lives out our values of Respect for All People, Value Difference, Responding to the Community’s Needs and Respecting our Spiritual Heritage to SERVE.
Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th gives TriHealth the opportunity to live out the core of who we are by pausing and bringing awareness to a marginalized part of our community as part of our work to address health equity and eliminate healthcare disparities.
Transgender Day of Remembrance was established to pay respect to the lives of Rita Hester, Chanelle Pickett, and Monique Thomas, who were transgender women and victims of hate-related violence. Today, the event has evolved into a day of remembrance for all transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to hate and bigotry. It is a day that promotes awareness of gender variant individuals’ fight for equality and inclusion, an opportunity for allies to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and to remember those who have lost their lives due to violence and hate-crimes to transgender people.
