The McCullough-Hyde Foundation is proud to announce that the inaugural Mock Family Award for Excellence in Nursing was presented to Angela Downard, RN, a nurse in the Emergency Department at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital/TriHealth.

The Mock Family Award for Excellence in Nursing recognizes nurses who model superior work in delivering on the patient experience. The first Excellence in Nursing Reception was hosted in May to honor the nominees and winner of the 2023 Mock Family Award.

“Not only does Angie provide outstanding care to her patients, she makes sure they are comfortable and emotionally supported,” said Amanda Stang, Medical Laboratory Scientist at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital/TriHealth. “She is the epitome of a kind and compassionate nurse who genuinely loves what she does. I am proud to work beside her.”

Nominees for the Mock Family Award are assessed by a volunteer committee based on patient experience, care delivery, clinical skills, acts of kindness and safety. All nominees are recognized and receive a commemorative “Excellence in Nursing” pin. The award nominees included Emily Baldwin, Kathy Briar, Maggie Dingledine, Krista Jones, Sharon Klein, Katie Maddock, Lindsay Shell and Mary Wagner.

Jill and Ray Mock established an endowment with the McCullough-Hyde Foundation to support this program and award with the goal to recognize and celebrate those who demonstrate compassionate care and outstanding nursing.

Jill Mock, CPNP, has more than 35 years of nursing service in the Oxford community. Mock first served as an obstetrical nurse at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital and then joined Oxford Pediatrics as a pediatric nurse practitioner in 1990.

“We are excited to launch the Mock Family Award for Excellence in Nursing at McCullough-Hyde,” said Tyler Wash, Executive Director. “Jill has a true passion for nursing and her passion has led her to focus on recognizing excellence right here at our community’s hospital. We are thankful for Jill and her ongoing support and vision.”

Nominations for the Mock Family Award can be made by grateful patients, community members, colleagues and coworkers. Nurses who work at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital/TriHealth or at a TriHealth physician practice in the greater Oxford area are eligible for nomination.
