Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us and TriHealth welcomes this opportunity to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of the Hispanic/LatinX community as well as recognize those who are building on the legacy of their ancestors.
This is the celebration of many flags and cultures whose impact can be felt around the world. The observation began as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson in 1968. September 15 is a significant date because it marks the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence on September 16 and September 18, respectively; while ‘Día de la Raza’ which illuminates the resiliency of found within these cultures is celebrated on October 12. The week evolved into a month on August 17, 1988, when President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration of heritage to cover a 30-day period. Since then, the United States has observed National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15.
As diversity, equity and inclusion are core values at TriHealth, we honor the Hispanic men and women who’ve made significant contributions to our society and are proud of achievements being made by the Hispanic/Latinx community within our organization.
We encourage all TriHealth team members to embrace Hispanic Heritage Month and over the next 30 days, please be on the lookout for SOMOS activities that advance the Hispanic/Latinx culture within our walls and TriHealth’s participation in external events that will be celebrating and honoring Hispanic Heritage Month including the 25th Anniversary Su Casa Hispanic Center Awards Dinner & Silent Auction, the Fiesta Rojos at Great American Ballpark and the SOMOS Volunteer Day in partnership with the Hispanic Chamber.
Additionally, SOMOS is highlighting countries/food/flags and various facts provided by members in their newsletter.
Muchas Gracias!
