Hi Team –

I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and joyous holiday weekend with family and friends. Whether you were celebrating Easter, Passover, Ramadan, or simply the start of spring, I hope it provided many special opportunities to renew and uplift your spirit. And while, unfortunately, the start of our Reds’ season has been a bit less than “uplifting,” we remain hopeful and optimistic that lots of exciting wins are just ahead...Go Reds!

21st LDI Recap
Speaking of wins, I’m pleased to share that last Wednesday’s 21st Leadership Development Institute (LDI), themed “Celebrate, Connect, Continue Our Work,” was an important step in helping us begin to move forward as One Team, TriHealth Strong in the post-pandemic world ahead. This LDI marked the start of the seventh year on our TriHealth Way Journey to Get Healthcare Right. During this half-day virtual LDI, our TriHealth leaders were introduced to the vital work required to overcome what, we hope, will be the final challenges of this extraordinary two-year COVID-19 pandemic, which are to help: 1) heal and renew our TriHealth team from the human toll of this pandemic – physically, mentally, and emotionally, and 2) restore our organization and culture by re-engaging together in our TriHealth Way practices of Leading, Serving, and Delivering Care. I had the privilege of kicking off the LDI with an update on the State of TriHealth and The TriHealth Way. This included a brief recap of our remarkable COVID journey to date, a reflective look back at the profound human impact of this global pandemic, and a review of the impressive progress we’ve made to Get Healthcare Right – despite intense and ongoing COVID challenges. This was followed by presentations from a number of our TriHealth leaders and physicians who reflected on our TriHealth Way journey and the effects of the pandemic on our progress. Our final sessions were devoted to reviewing the Work Ahead and how we will redouble our efforts to “reboot” and revive our TriHealth Way leadership, service, safety, and reliability practices in a way that will allow us to continue to Get Healthcare Right as we transition from a pandemic to an endemic new normal. A special thanks to Rev. Frank Nation and Dr. Bryan Strader who served as LDI co-hosts – along with all of our presenters, and our entire LDI Planning and Organizational Development teams who made this another very relevant and timely LDI. Be sure to talk to your leader about their key LDI takeaways, and click here to see a short LDI highlights reel. Later this week, all the LDI presentations will be posted on Bridge, so take the time to check them out.

Join Us Today at Noon for the April Team Member Town Hall on Bridge. I will be joined by fellow TriHealth leaders and physicians and we will review our latest system wins, share COVID updates, and discuss our essential work ahead to help our team heal and renew from this long COVID journey, as we re-engage in our TriHealth Way work to Get Healthcare Right in the post-pandemic new normal. As always, we will devote plenty of time to answer your questions, and those who participate in the conversation will have the chance to win fun TriHealth prizes! For those unable to join, look for links to the full Town Hall video and recap highlights in my next Weekly Update.

COVID Update
New COVID cases within the community and at TriHealth continue to be low, with eight COVID-positive patients in TriHealth hospitals (see sidebar graphic). While encouraged that new COVID infections and hospitalizations remain low and relatively stable, we continue to monitor the Omicron variant, BA.2, as well as other COVID-related developments, and are well prepared to respond quickly to any potential future surges, should they arise.

Healing and Recovery Begin with Recognition & Gratitude
The last two years have put unique and unimaginable demands on all healthcare systems and healthcare workers, as we’ve all experienced first-hand. The human toll this two-year pandemic has taken on all of us – due to prolonged stress, personal sacrifices, impact on our families, and loss of lives – has been nothing short of heartbreaking. And today, we stand here together, nearing the end of this difficult journey that none of us chose, feeling understandably weary, yet in some ways, more resilient. While I hope we will never again have to endure such a pervasive and challenging public health crisis, I’m thankful for the strength of our team and all we accomplished.

So how do we move forward and begin to heal and renew? Well, we start by acknowledging, and yes, celebrating all of the extraordinary things we achieved together over the past two years. Today, we can take great pride in knowing that our hardships and sacrifices were not in vain. By “showing up” and giving our best, day in and day out, year after year, we achieved what we set out to do. We helped to ensure that tens of thousands of patients in our community received the best possible care, allowing them to go on to recover from COVID-19 – and we never closed our doors or turned even one patient away throughout the four potentially overwhelming waves of COVID outbreaks. Together, we found a way to triumph through it all with compassion, skill, and teamwork. I can’t think of a more rewarding place to start the healing process than that.

As we come out of this pandemic, TriHealth’s Board and leadership are unwavering in our commitment to ensure that you, our incredible team members and physicians – who have given so much for so long – return to our new normal knowing that you are highly valued and the central reason why we can look ahead to a bright future for our system and our community. I’ve said it a hundred times, and I’ll say it again, we are blessed with the best healthcare team anywhere, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it!! Thank you for everything you’ve done, and continue to do, for our patients, our community, and each other!
