TriHealth Bridge

June 01, 2021

Hi Team –

I hope you enjoyed a fun and relaxing long holiday weekend in celebration of Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer! I want to extend a special and BIG thank you to our TriHealth Armed Forces Group And Supporters (TAGS) who organized and hosted last Thursday’s Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash to honor our fallen U.S. military service members. A flag-folding ceremony was performed by team members Harold Cash and John Carlson, both U.S. Army Veterans, and the history of Memorial Day was shared by team member Larry Mayborg, U.S. Air Force Veteran. Hospice Chaplain, Andrew Balk offered a blessing and a moving rendition of the National Anthem, which was appreciated by all in attendance. Click here for more event details and photos.

COVID Update
Cases continue to remain low and steady at TriHealth and in the region, thanks in large part to vaccinations (see sidebar)! So it’s essential we all continue to advocate for the community to get vaccinated, as it is the only proven way to put this pandemic in the rearview mirror! This is more important than ever as we begin to roll back mask-wearing requirements for the vaccinated in non-patient care areas by phasing in our updated mask guidelines, which take effect tomorrow, June 2. As a reminder, regardless of vaccination status, all team members, patients, and visitors must continue to always wear masks in patient care areas, even after the Governor's restrictions are lifted. Beginning tomorrow, vaccinated team members may choose to not wear a mask in non-patient care areas, and meetings of more than 10 people may officially resume. LDI Recap
I’m excited to share that last Wednesday’s 19th LDI and 3rd Annual Patient Safety Summit were among our best yet, thanks to the outstanding event leadership of Reverend Frank Nation and new co-host, Terri Hanlon-Bremer, coupled with very timely and relevant content! Built around the theme, “Adapting Great Behaviors, Achieving Great Results,” this day-long virtual LDI safely brought together our 900+ system leaders to review and celebrate our five-year TriHealth Way journey and the solid foundation it gave us for leading the way in getting healthcare right through every stage of the pandemic. We also heard powerful high-reliability and safety stories and learned from each other about how to more effectively set and cascade LEM goals down to frontline team members. And during the Safety Summit, we had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Jim Merlino, Chief Transformation Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, who provided affirming evidence that our own High Reliability Organizing (HRO) journey is on par with the experiences and achievements of the Cleveland Clinic, one of the best in the industry! We also spent time renewing our focus on wellness and reconnecting with each other, our mission, and our goals for the future. And we ended the day on a high note by celebrating dozens of TriHealth leaders, physicians, and team members with the return of the Pillar and Axe awards. Be sure to talk to your leader about their key LDI takeaways, and click here to see the LDI highlights reel. And later this week, be sure to check back on Bridge for access to all the LDI presentations.

Race Ethnicity and Language Launch
As part of TriHealth’s strong commitment to address and close health disparities, TriHealth has partnered with More Inclusive Healthcare (MIH), an organization that helps hospitals and healthcare systems, like TriHealth, to adopt best practices around the science of data collection and analysis aimed at improving the health of our community particularly where disparities or inequities exist. The goal of the Race, Ethnicity, And Language (REAL) project is to standardize and hardwire the capture of demographic data around race, ethnicity, and language to allow our system to better understand and address health equity needs for our patients and the community. REAL training is for all team members, physicians, and leaders, not just those who provide direct care or capture demographic data. So as part of this training, we’re asking every team member to watch a short five-minute video called, “What is REAL and Why Do We Collect It,” which you can access in your LEARN “To Do” list.

In closing, I’d like to share a very special video featuring Monica Hubbard, a Food and Nutrition Services team member, that demonstrates the heart of our TriHealth team members and the fact that our sacred calling to serve is not simply WHAT we do here at TriHealth, it’s truly WHO we are! I met Monica a few weeks ago while rounding at Good Samaritan Hospital and she sang several uplifting songs to me about TriHealth that she wrote herself! Wow, that was a first for me and what a treat!! Monica felt so moved by the TriHealth Way and our shared commitment to serve the community that she wrote these songs to express from her heart what makes us TriHealth Strong. Click here to view a video of Monica performing her two songs live during Healthcare Heroes Week. Thank you, Monica, and the thousands of TriHealth Team Members just like her for demonstrating day in and day out the power of our Mission and The TriHealth Way!
