The Paramedicine Program started up in early 2020. It provides supportive services to people who live in Miami Township and Milford. This program is paid through a grant from the Berning Foundation so the services are free of charge. The Paramedic makes home visits for patients who aren’t eligible for home care or can’t afford private home care.
Jim Petry can provide:
- Home Safety Checks- Identify potential safety hazards around the home
- Home Knox Box- Secure lock box outside the home to allow quick access by the paramedic/fire department
- Fall Prevention Education- Educate the patients about fall risks in their home
- Medication Education/Review- Make sure they have the proper medications and removing old and duplicate medications
- Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detectors- Make sure they are working properly
- Post Hospital Follow up- Helping patients with post hospital care
In 2020, Jim Petry worked with 37 patients. He conducted 122 home visits and 245 follow up calls despite the COVID pandemic. There was a 59% decrease in EMS runs to the hospital from patients enrolled in the program. The typical patient is older with complex health issues who also many times has significant social, mental health, or physical resource needs.
In November 2020, Miami Township purchased a dedicated SUV to be used for Paramedicine. The Program is now integrated into TriHealth’s EPIC medical records which allows for seamless sharing of information with the PCP and hospital staff. Jim Petry is now providing some support to the Advanced Heart Failure Program by assisting with home care for CHF patients.
If you identify a patient that would benefit from this Program, please contact Jim Petry through Voalte or call 513-248-3700. You can also contact the HARP program with a referral at 513-977-6700.
This is the kind of progressive patient centered care that provides the right care, in the right place, and decrease hospitalizations and ED visits. We need even more of this. Not only that, but it pays for itself in cost savings.
