"Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." –Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has made a permanent and enteral impact on the nation. As we pass the hallmark of the 26th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, take a moment to consider – what does this day mean to you?
For some it’s an opportunity to volunteer in service. For others it’s a reminder to reflect on the struggle for equality. For many Americans, it’s a day to celebrate the progress that’s been made since Dr. King began his work and make a commitment to continue the hard work of ensuring civil rights, equity and inclusion for every American regardless of race, religion or socio-economic class.
On August 28, 1963, Dr. King delivered his most famous speech. He stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial before more than 250,000 people and spoke of his Dream of the end to racism in America.
Even after more than 50 years since his assassination, Dr. King’s teachings continue to resonate within American culture. His message of equality of all races and nationalities, faith and service can serve as a guiding light and aspiration.
In recognition of Dr. King’s Dream, share with us what Martin Luther King, Jr. Day means to you. Whatever your answer, we encourage you to take action to help make his Dream a reality.
We will keep this celebration going. Look forward to more celebrations, videos and opportunities to share your experiences during Black History Month in February!
