This week the “Vaccinated for YOU” community awareness and communications campaign continues with Kevin Joseph, MD, Christian Bradley and Med Akinbi sharing why they chose to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
See below for tangible ways you can participate in the "Vaccinated for YOU" campaign, helping educate and motivate all our patients and community members to get their COVID-19 vaccine.
Kevin Joseph, MD, Chief Medical Officer for TriHealth
“The COVID-19 vaccine is more than twice as effective against a virus that is more than six times as deadly than influenza.
Receiving the vaccine is the only way for us to stop COVID-19 which is killing more people every day than the number of people who died on 9/11. Everyone needs to participate, and healthcare providers need to lead the way.”

Christian Bradley, Talent Acquisition Consultant for TriHealth
“I chose to get the COVID-19 vaccine because I miss my family, especially my Dad. Keeping him and my daughter safe is very important to me.
Also, the historical significance is monumental.
As an African American, the history of medical care within the black community in America, especially in regards to vaccinations has been, for lack of a better word, DESPICABLE (i.e., the Tuskegee Experiment). I hope with my vaccination that I’m able to help restore some confidence amongst the community, inspiring them to get the vaccine and save lives.”
Med Akinbi, Pharmacy Manager at Good Samaritan Hospital
“On December 29th, Ohio reported the highest death and hospitalizations from COVID-19. I got my Moderna vaccine on December 30th. I’m lucky to work for a healthcare system that prioritized my place in line.
We are in some dark days of a pandemic, thousands of people are dying daily, with the toll exceeding major conflicts. The devastation is real. The science to get us through is real too. Some have concerns about the rapid development and deployment of the mRNA vaccines to provide protective immunity against COVID-19. I view this as a moment of relief, not fear.
For me, there is no contest. Vaccination — and the science behind it — wins.
That’s why, although TriHealth is allowing team members to make their own decisions on whether to get the COVID-19 vaccine, I eagerly rolled up my sleeve and encouraged my team to roll theirs up too.
Beyond the healthcare workforce, I hope that when it is available, everyone who can be vaccinated against COVID-19 makes the decision to choose science over fear.
When I received my vaccine, it felt like the beginning of the end for COVID-19.
It was a day of relief and optimism. I hope there are many more days like it ahead.
I will continue to wear masks. The Pfizer study only looked at how well the vaccine prevents disease, not how well it prevents infection—that is, it’s possible that one can have the vaccine, still get infected, and spread the virus without feeling ill. I hope this is not true. There is a suggestion in the Moderna data that rates of asymptomatic infection will be lower in those vaccinated. Given the uncertainty, I will not be hosting unmasked dinners in my home, visiting my parent, or hugging my friends until we know more.
As we claw our way through, I feel more confident that I won’t get sick from COVID-19 or die from it. That means a lot.
I rolled up my sleeve. Will you?”
