TriHealth Bridge

March 01, 2021

Black History Month is often condensed to a handful of memorable moments and events. Courageous stories of slaves freed through the Underground Railroad are contrasted with historic moments like the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

African American history is unique and powerful. Their contributions to science, engineering, medicine, education and so many other areas significantly contributed to the modern world. We want to celebrate those African Americans you may not have heard of, but without them, your life today would be very different.

African Americans in the Cincinnati Region
African Americans in Cincinnati have played a vital role in the making of the Queen City. They are woven into every fabric of Cincinnati’s rich historical tapestry. Their struggles for racial equality, social justice, and economic opportunities have marked the city’s streets, homes, churches, schools, governments and workplaces.

Trivia Game
This week, TriHealth would like to celebrate Black History Month with a Trivia Game, recognizing prominent African American leaders in healthcare and historic African American leaders in the Cincinnati region.

When you complete the trivia, your name will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win a Visa gift card or a gift certificate to a local African American-owned business. Answers will be posted on the Bridge on Friday, February 26 and a member of the TriHealth Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team will contact the winners to retrieve their prize. Click Here for Trivia Answers.

Cincinnati African American-owned Businesses
We would also like to spotlight African American owned businesses here in Cincinnati. Many small, local businesses have been tremendously impacted by COVID-19. We strongly encourage you to patronize these small businesses. They need our support now more than ever before.

Click here to see a fraction of the local African American-owned businesses in the region that would love your support.

Did You Know…?
  • There are thousands of African American-owned businesses in the Greater Cincinnati Area.

  • Cincinnati is home to numerous African American celebrities, including Katt Williams (stand-up comedian and actor), Bootsy Collins (musician and singer-songwriter), L.A. Reid (record executive and producer), and the original Isley Brothers (musical group).

The Trivia was awesome! I learned a lot. I am a native of Cincinnati and didn't know that Robert Duncanson lived in the same neighborhood I group up in. Thanks Tribe for highlighting some of the great leaders in Black History!
