Spring is in full bloom, and thanks to donors, including our generous TriHealth team members, the region's arts are popping up everywhere, adding to its overall beauty. ArtsWave and the many arts organizations around Greater Cincinnati have performances, workshops and sessions ready for you to experience as you embrace the change of season and the hope it brings!
Enjoy the Arts @ Boone Woods Park
Join us at Boone Woods Park on Saturday, April 24 to take in an afternoon of free theater for everyone! It's all part of ArtsWave's Enjoy the Arts @ Parks series, presented by Macy’s.
The afternoon kicks off at 1 p.m. as Cincinnati Shakespeare Company calls on friends, Romans and countrymen alike to witness this new production of “Julius Caesar.” This 90-minute play, directed by Christian Wiltshire, is created specifically for ArtsWave, you and the great outdoors!
At 3:30, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati presents “Martin’s Dream.” Directed by Dr. Daryl Harris, and reimagined specifically for an outside audience, “Martin’s Dream” is a one-person show created and performed by Deondra Kamau Means. Means will lead an exploration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life through story, speech and song. Audiences will follow along from Dr. King’s childhood in the Deep South through his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Release Stress with Cincy's Film Pros
The film industry is usually seen as glamorous, and in many ways, it is. However, it comes with hard work, long hours and continuous pressure to be creative. Stress relief techniques play a crucial role for those involved making movies.
At "Managing Stress: A Look Behind Cincinnati’s Film Industry," you'll hear behind-the-scenes stories of films shot here in Greater Cincinnati from the people directly involved with casting, creating and acting in them. They'll also talk through stress relief techniques used by the pros.
Special guests include local casting director and Producing Artistic Director of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, D. Lynn Meyers, Film Cincinnati's Executive Director, Kristen Schlotman, local actor from “The Public” Bryant Bentley and area medical experts.
This event is a benefit for ArtsWave Pass members, which is part of our One Campaign. If you have questions about the Pass, please visit artswave.org/pass or email artswavepass@artswave.org.
Gearing Up for Spring
The weather is warm and restrictions on gatherings are beginning to loosen. The Cincinnati region's arts organizations have plenty to share with you, whether you're at home, outside, or attending in person.
This Time Tomorrow, Contemporary Arts Center's annual performance festival, is currently underway. International, domestic and local artists are presenting their a diverse assembly of their latest, cutting edge works, engaging with the crucial themes of our times. You can experience both virtual and in-person events through this Sunday, April 11.
On the digital front, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is asking, "How do you plan for catastrophe?" That's the question behind "The Catastrophist," which starts streaming April 26. The time-jumping tale is based on the life and work of virologist Nathan Wolfe, who proposed pandemic insurance years before the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Cincinnati Opera Center Stage and Findlay Yoga are working together to bring a unique experience to you with "Opera and Yoga at Home." On April 15, you can join this special, mindful session of yoga with instructor Suzie Nagy. Baritone Simon Barrad and pianist Kseniia Polstiankina Barrad will provide meditative opera selections throughout.
If you're ready to take in some music in person, you're not alone. Louis Langrée and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra are heading back to the stage at Music Hall. Join a limited-capacity audience when they perform works by Duke Ellington, Gabriella Smith and a world premiere by Michael Cerrone at this weekend's concert.
Finally, the Wyoming Fine Arts Center launches "Loving Wyoming" this spring to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. On April 10, you and your family are invited to a workshop where you can create your own pride flag mosaics. While you're at it, you'll learn all about the artists who designed the original rainbow flag and its transgender-inclusive successor.
