On April 13, 2021 we celebrated the 125th anniversary of Bethesda.
In 1896, seven German Methodist Deaconesses and Rev. Christian Golder founded Bethesda. The Deaconesses walked up and down the steps of Mt. Auburn, carrying picnic baskets full of medical supplies, serving those in Cincinnati who were denied access to healthcare.
Our TriHealth sponsors, the Methodist Deaconesses, along with the Sisters of Charity, provided a model for serving the community through the sacred ministry of healthcare, a mission we carry on at TriHealth 125 years later.

Events to Commemorate the Birthday of Bethesda
- Monday, April 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. – Traditional graveside service at Spring Grove Cemetery to honor the memory and legacy of the founding Deaconesses
- Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. – Prayer service outside Bethesda North by the flagpole
In recognition of all the great work performed by team members, nurses, physicians and leaders at Bethesda locations and to celebrate this milestone birthday, custom individually-wrapped Busken birthday cookies will be available at the following locations on Tuesday, April 13, 2021:
- Bethesda North Café
- Bethesda Arrow Springs
- Bethesda Butler
Bethesda 125th Anniversary lapel pins will be shared by leaders with all team members to proudly wear at Bethesda locations to celebrate this milestone birthday.
For patients, to mark the birthday, inpatient meal trays on April 13 will include a “Happy 125th Birthday Bethesda” mat, and patients will be able to watch this "Happy Birthday Bethesda" video from their inpatient TVs celebrating the birthday of Bethesda.

This is a proud heritage and tradition for our organization and the Cincinnati community! Bethesda Oak Hospital was a pillar in the City of Cincinnati and I'm proud to say that's where I started working in 1988! So much rich history!
