World Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated every year on November 14 to engage millions of people worldwide in diabetes advocacy and awareness. The day itself is celebrated on November 14, to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1921.

The primary aim of the World Diabetes Day and World Diabetes Month 2018–19 campaign is to raise awareness of the impact that diabetes has on the family and to promote the role of the family in the management, care, prevention and education of the condition. Read on for more information about the three focus areas.
