Desmond Waters, Senior Director of Pharmacy Services, has announced his resignation from TriHealth effective at the end of this year. Desmond has been a prominent figure here at TriHealth for the past 6 years, and it truly is with mixed emotions that I make this announcement of his decision to pursue a new opportunity.

During Desmond’s tenure as our Senior Director of Pharmacy Services, he has worked with other leaders across the system on several key projects as we continue our development into the region’s premier healthcare system:

• Creation of TriHealth’s Specialty Pharmacy division

  • A new creation for TriHealth, our specialty pharmacy allows for internal clinical oversight of the creation and distribution of highly specialized medications for cancer and rheumatology patients. TriHealth’s specialty pharmacy is also dedicated to helping our patients secure financial assistance for these medications, having identified over $1 million in aid to patients since July 2018.
    
    

• 340(b) expansion

  • This expansion has allowed TriHealth to purchase medications for other retail pharmacies at reduced costs, resulting in cost savings for those pharmacies and new revenue streams for TriHealth.

     

• Design, development, and implementation of our cancer center pharmacies

• The creation of TriHealth’s 7 cancer center pharmacies resulted in new pharmacies staffed by clinical pharmacists that are oncology specialists dedicated to the creation and distribution of cancer medications.

Desmond’s departure from TriHealth will allow him to pursue a new opportunity where he will have the ability to share his more than 20 years of experience in the areas of pharmacy optimization and specialty programs on a national scale. This is an exciting new challenge for Desmond and an opportunity that I am confident he will excel at.

We will be conducting a national search to find the best candidate to continue the work that Desmond has done as our Senior Director of Pharmacy Services. While that search is underway, Amy Cobb, currently our Director of Pharmacy Operations, will be serving in the Senior Director role on an interim basis.
