Dr. Kenneth Zwergel was a beloved west side pediatrician for 25 years and was adored by his patients and their families. Dr. Zwergel passed away on July 17 at age 58 after a brave 1 ½ year battle with ALS.
Dr. Zwergel attended medical school at Wright State University and trained as a pediatrician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital from 1990-1993. He worked the majority of his career at Queen City Pediatrics.
Known to his patients as Dr. “Z”, he will be remembered for his gentle nature, his humor, and his natural way with children. He delivered excellent medical care, showed interest with all aspect of his patients’ lives and treated them with great compassion and empathy. Dr. Z was a positive role model for new physicians in his practice and was revered by his coworkers.
During his illness Dr. Z received an outpouring of love, letters, and handmade cards and drawings from his patients. He inspired contributions to the ALS Society to help prevent others from suffering from ALS in the future. Last year, the ALS Society presented Dr. Z their award recognizing the largest team donation.
He was also named the Aubrey Rose Foundation’s “Above and Beyond Doctor of the Year” award winner in 2018.
Dr. Z’s legacy will be remembered and honored at QCP and TriHealth Pediatrics as a beloved colleague.
Dr. Zwergel leaves behind Beth, his wife of 29 years, and three children - Kristopher, Kelsey and Arynn.

Dr. Z was a inspiring influence for my son James.He hopes to become a neurologist some day.

Heartbreaking to hear about Dr. Z. My children were all patients at Queen City Pediatrics and saw him occasionally. He was very kind. My heart goes out to his family.

Ken was a great guy. I knew him as a Resident when I worked there and he took care of both of my sons.

Dr. Z was a very caring and compassionate Dr. he was always great with my kids and always made them feel at ease when they were in the office. He will be greatly missed by all.
