TriHealth Bridge

July 15, 2019

Hi Team!

Last week, our 800+ system leaders took part in the first Leadership Development Institute (LDI) of Fiscal Year 2020 – the 13th LDI since our journey from good to great began over three years ago!

As I shared last week, the July LDI was titled, “Mastering Change, Leading with Agility." Now about halfway through our five-plus year journey to get healthcare right, this LDI provided our leaders with practical tools and skill-building around how best to engage and support our team members and physicians as we adapt and change in response to today’s unprecedented industry transformation. We also used our time together to assess our progress at this important three-year milestone – reflecting on what’s working, what’s not, and what we need to do differently – in order to make the necessary “course corrections” for 2020 and beyond that will enable us to accelerate our performance improvements across all five pillars – service, safety/quality, people, growth and financial health. We also introduced two new High Reliability principles and practices – Just Culture and Cause Analysis – to help all of us deliver the safest and highest quality care anywhere, all part of our sacred work to deliver on the Triple Aim of better care, better health, and better value for all those we serve.

What’s Next: In the coming days and weeks, your leader will be meeting with you and your team members in a series of follow up discussions to begin the work introducing and hardwiring the key LDI learnings and takeaways, which will include:

• Sharing highlights of our mid-journey assessment results and the planned course corrections for 2020 and beyond
• Working with your local teams to implement Just Culture and Apparent Cause Analysis practices
• Providing new training to support effective Team Member Selection and Retention practices
• Continuing the work of mastering and hardwiring TriHealth Way of Leading Change practices to more effectively involve and better support team members through the necessary industry changes underway
• Cascading results of our latest Team Member and Physician Engagement Surveys – and with team member and physician involvement – developing local action plans to address improvement opportunities

We look forward to your ideas, input, and active involvement in these important discussions and the actions we will take in response, all of which are essential to achieving the breakthrough performance improvement necessary to accelerate progress on our journey from good to great. As always, thank you for all you do to help us make TriHealth the best place to work, to practice, and most importantly, to receive the safest, highest quality care and service possible!

Weekly Huddle Message: Share Lessons Learned
As a system, we are focusing on creating a culture of sharing our good catches and our mistakes, allowing us to learn from each other. Share your safety and reliability stories with your teams, or email safety@trihealth.com to share lessons learned beyond your team!

"It is necessary for us to learn from others' mistakes. You will not live long enough to make them all yourself.”
