Congratulations to Melody Losey, RN, and Bernard Staple, PCS, from Hospice of Cincinnati for being recognized through the Bethesda Foundation's Grateful Family Program. Hospice of Cincinnati received a gift in their honor from a grateful family member.

The grateful family member included a note with her  gift, thanking HOC for the care of her husband:

My husband Marvin was not an easy patient. He fought for weeks at home and then was brought to Blue Ash. We are very grateful for the wonderful care we received from the whole team. Two people in particular went above and beyond – Melody and Bernard.

Melody was Marvin’s nurse and always cheerful with us. She made Marvin and I laugh and that was a big lift to our spirits. I am especially grateful that she told me to stay on the night he passed. I don’t know how she knew it was time, but she did and although it was difficult to hear these words, I would have regretted not being there with him to say goodbye.

I could not believe the amount of care Bernard took when he shaved Marvin. It was such a comforting experience. Bernard was so gentle and caressed Marvin’s skin. He talked so kindly and comforting to Marvin through the whole process. The whole experience was such a welcome distraction for all the stress we had been experiencing. Bernard took like an hour with us and it was really appreciated. Marvin felt so good after the shave and I felt good because you could tell how much Marvin had enjoyed it.

Melody and Bernard were presented with the Compassionate Care pin to thank them for making a difference in this family's life.

The Grateful Family Program allows families to recognize a physician, nurse, caregiver or team member who made a difference in their life with a donation and a note of thanks. Donations made through the Grateful Family Program provide support for programs and services at Hospice of Cincinnati.
