I am pleased to announce that Maria Newsad, MSN, RN, NE-BC, has been selected as TriHealth’s new System Director for Emergency Departments (ED). Maria is succeeding Jim Owen, who recently announced his retirement from TriHealth.
Many of you know Maria through her leadership of Bethesda North ED’s nursing unit, as Senior Nurse Manager of the ED, a role she has held since 2011. She opened TriHealth’s first designated Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) and has also served as manager of the CDU since 2016. Maria brings 18 years of clinical leadership experience to this position, which began at Dayton’s Good Samaritan Hospital where she served in several leadership positions, including Director of Nursing. She joined TriHealth in 2006. Focused on patient-centered, evidence-based care and building interpersonal relationships with her team members, Maria’s track record of success includes sustained 99th percentile satisfaction results for patients who have been rounded on in the ED; integration of initiatives to improve patient outcomes; and implementation of team member focused initiatives resulting in consistently excellent engagement scores.
As System Director for ED, Maria will oversee operations and growth initiatives for all EDs across TriHealth, while leading and developing nearly 400 team members. One of her primary goals is to align standards of care across all TriHealth EDs to consistently provide the safest and highest quality of care to our patients. To ensure a seamless transition that does not disrupt ED operations, Maria has already begun meeting and working with medical directors and managers at Bethesda North Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.
Maria’s promotion is another example of cultivating our talent and building our TriHealth team from within. I am confident that Maria’s passion for patient care coupled with her innovative approach to team building will continue to translate to successful outcomes for patients, team members and our system. Please join me in congratulating Maria as she begins her new role in leading our ED teams.
