TriHealth Bridge

January 24, 2025

As we enter February, we celebrate Black History Month, which acknowledges the impact of African Americans on our society, honoring their struggles and triumphs. It reaffirms TriHealth’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and appreciates the diverse experiences that enrich our community.

This month reflects on the past, celebrates the present, and commits to a more inclusive future. In addition to this overarching theme, there will be a focus on health and wellness in team member activities. This emphasis aims to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being, recognizing that a healthy community is essential for fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment.

TriHealth Celebrations, Activities and Recognition

Team Member Spotlights

Throughout the month, we will feature reflections from some of our team members on the significance of Black History Month.

Local Black history in the medical profession

Did you know Walnut Hills was once a vibrant center for Black medical professionals? It’s just one of many interesting facts of about Cincinnati’s medical history and contributions made by Black Cincinnatians. We’ll share more on Bridge in February about these past and present figures.

Join us for an upcoming discussion “Mental Health and Psychological Safety”, featuring Dr. Shantel Thomas, owner of A Sound Mind Counseling Service and founder of the Center For Healing The Hurt, a free trauma based therapy center. This insightful event will take place on February 26 at 12:00 p.m. at the Baldwin Corporate Office on the 12th floor. Lunch will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. courtesy of Paityn’s Place.

Volunteer with TriHealth’s School To Work program

School to Work is a TriHealth program that provides real-world healthcare experience to Cincinnati Public School high school students, who work in clinical and non-clinical departments within Good Samarian Hospital and the medical office building. It was created by Jeremiah Kirkland, President & COO of Bethesda Butler Hospital/McCullough-Hyde Hospital, and supported by bi3 Fund, Commonspirit and Good Samaritan Foundation. This year’s cohort includes 50 students who have shared aspirations of beginning a career in healthcare.

Contact Katrina Rugless, Partner for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Belonging, if interested in volunteering opportunities with the “School To Work” program.
