TriHealth Bridge

November 27, 2024

On Wednesday, November 6th, the Bethesda Retired Team Members Committee proudly hosted its annual luncheon at Terwilliger Lodge in Dulle Park. Around 65 retirees attended to reconnect with old colleagues and friends. Guests were delighted to hear about updates on the Bethesda North construction from Dr. Clint Hutson, President and COO.

TriHealth Senior Advisor to the CEO, Will Groneman, announced a new scholarship fund started by the Retired Team Members Committee honoring TriHealth’s founder, Tom Wilburn. L. Thomas “Tom” Wilburn, Jr. came to Bethesda Oak in 1971 and served as the president and CEO of Bethesda for more than 20 years.

Tom saw a need to collaborate to more efficiently serve the health care needs of our community. So, in 1995, he forged a partnership with Sister Myra James Bradley to combine Bethesda hospitals with Good Samaritan Hospital. Through this partnership, TriHealth was formed. Tom’s vision for an integrated health system was ahead of its time and has continued to grow into the organization TriHealth is today. Tom passed away in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, collaboration, and compassion.

The L. Thomas Wilburn, Jr. Scholarship will support continuing education for current Bethesda team members who want to expand their healthcare education. We were honored to have two of Mr. Wilburn’s daughters – Teresa Wilburn Butler and Lauri Wilburn Sloneker – and three of his granddaughters – Jamie Quigley, Shelby Howard, and Kristy Morical - in attendance for the occasion.

Will generously offered a $2,500 matching gift to encourage donations to start the fund. Including this match, the Bethesda Foundation has raised more than $5,000 toward starting the fund. All donors who give $500 or more will be invited to serve on the scholarship review committee along with members of the Retired Team Members Committee.
