TriHealth Bridge

May 07, 2024

Hi Team –

As we prepare to celebrate ALL TriHealth team members and physicians during Healthcare Appreciation Week next week, we are also taking time this week to recognize and thank our 4,000+ incredible TriHealth nurses during National Nurses Week!

In so many ways, our nurses are at the heart of bringing our brand promise to life. Working side-by-side with patients and families, their passion and dedication help ensure that all those we serve are seen, heard and deeply cared for, every day in every interaction. So, System Chief Nursing Executive Jenny Skinner and the TriHealth Nursing team kicked off the celebrations last Friday with a special Nursing Forum. It was followed by last night’s Annual TriHealth Nursing Recognition Celebration Dinner where more than 250 of our nurses were recognized for professional advancements and nursing excellence (see photos below). And the festivities continue throughout this week with a number of exciting activities including Nursing Open Houses at hospitals across the system. Our nursing units throughout the system will also be honoring their nurses with fun local activities, and we’ll be featuring daily prize drawings on Bridge for our nurses all week. So please be sure to thank a nurse this week – and every week – for all they do and the roles they play as part of the best healthcare team anywhere working together to deliver surprisingly human care to every patient, always

And be sure to make time to tune into our special 30-minute, fun-filled Healthcare Appreciation Week Town Hall next Wednesday, May 15, at noon on Bridge. We will unveil the winning design of our 2024 Healthcare Appreciation Week t-shirt, announce the winners of our Unsung Hero Award contest, recognize and thank our team members and physicians and much more, so see you there!!!

Getting Healthcare Right
Telling Our Story: Leading the Way with Population Health
Nearly nine years into our work to transform healthcare through better care, better health, and better value for those we serve, our patients are healthier and the care we deliver is safer, more accessible and more affordable.

So, in an effort to more effectively tell the story of our work to transform healthcare for the better and to serve as a regional and national model for Getting Healthcare Right, we have collaborated with the Cincinnati Business Courier on a series of monthly columns. These columns aim to educate employers and the business community about our nation’s broken healthcare system – a system that spends more and gets less than any other country in the world – and why and how we can do better, which for employers will lead to healthier employees, improved productivity and a healthier bottom line for businesses throughout Greater Cincinnati.

Click here to read the latest Getting Health Care Right column, which I co-authored with Dr. Stephen Cleves, TriHealth System Chief of Primary Care. This month, we explore how TriHealth is leading the way to improve the lives of our patients by adopting innovative care and financing models – and building an integrated system of care – that seamlessly delivers the right care in the right way in the right place to produce the right outcomes at the right cost. That model is population health. And in this article, we share with business leaders how focusing on and rewarding prevention, early detection, application of genomics and better management of chronic conditions is leading to better patient outcomes, more accessible care and lower healthcare costs for patients and employers alike.

Preparing the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals: 16 CPS Students Graduate from TriHealth’s School to Work Program
Last Thursday, May 2, I had the privilege of joining TriHealth team members, leaders and physicians in celebrating the 16 Cincinnati Public School (CPS) high school seniors who graduated from our innovative School to Work (STW) program. Among this year’s graduating class, 13 students are college bound, two have plans to enlist in military service to pursue careers in nursing, and one is immediately pursuing a career in healthcare. And all of the graduates have credited their STW program experience as the reason for their career choices!

A collaboration between TriHealth and CPS, the program gives CPS high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to gain real-life healthcare experience by rotating through and working in various departments and clinical settings at Good Samaritan Hospital. Since launching in 2019, nearly 110 students have participated in the STW program and CPS student interest in the program has skyrocketed with 90 applicants for 30 positions just this year! And this is resulting in more and more high school students choosing careers in healthcare, and that’s a really good thing!!! Congratulations and best wishes to our STW graduates, and special thanks to our STW program leaders, facilitators and Good Sam team members along with our two sponsors, bi3 and CommonSpirit, who make this program possible.

Getting Stroke Care Right: TriHealth Hosts 2nd Annual Stroke Care Conference
Last Thursday, the TriHealth Neuroscience Institute hosted more than 200 doctors, nurses, therapists, EMTs and other clinicians at the 2nd Annual Stroke Care Today and Tomorrow Conference. Featuring presentations from our own TriHealth neurosciences team, alongside national stroke experts, the conference once again raised awareness around the importance of early detection and timely, multidisciplinary treatment of stroke – all to ultimately improve patient outcomes by delivering the right care at the right time. In addition to keynote addresses, the conference featured customized learning tracks, including Inpatient, Secondary Stroke Prevention, Prehospital and Emergency Care, Rehabilitation and Recovery, Cardiovascular/Neurosurgery, and Critical Care.

The strong interest in and overwhelming success of this conference is further evidence of TriHealth’s growing stature as a national clinical and thought leader in stroke care and management! Congratulations to Dr. Christopher Zammit, TriHealth Medical Director of Stroke & Neurologic Emergencies, Lori Greiser, Executive Director of Surgical Specialties and Neurosciences, and the TriHealth Neuroscience Institute team for leading the way in Getting Stroke Care Right for the entire community!

Connecting with Our Community: TriHealth Participates in 20th Annual Cincy-Cinco Event
Once again this year, TriHealth participated in the annual Cincy-Cinco Celebration which was held last Saturday and Sunday on Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati. A celebration of Hispanic culture, Cincy-Cinco was another opportunity for our team to represent TriHealth in “seeing, hearing and engaging” with our community while providing important health screenings and education on preventive care in both English and Spanish to better serve our Spanish-speaking community and connect them to our resources. A BIG thank you to all of our TriHealth DEI+B team and volunteers who spent part of their weekend at Cincy-Cinco to demonstrate once again that TriHealth is working to Get Healthcare Right for the entire community we serve!!!

It takes a great team to make a great health system, and because of you, TriHealth is blessed to have both! Thank you for always choosing to be your best and to bring out the best in our health system and each other!
