PRISM is TriHealth’s employee resource group (ERG) for LGBTQ+ team members and allies. The group is led by chair Maggie Cosker (RN, Bethesda North) and co-chair CJ Adams (System Manager Clinical Documentation), along with executive sponsor, Steve Mombach (Senior VP of Ambulatory Services and Network Development). PRISM aims to foster an inclusive workplace culture that supports LGBTQ+ team members and community. Its mission statement is “to develop resources and programs to build LGBTQ+ cultural competence, cultivate a climate of inclusion, and engage with LGBTQ+ organizations in the community.” One way this is accomplished is in monthly meeting where members provide support, information, and creativity to plan events that advance the visibility and awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community within the TriHealth system.  

One of the highlights this year was “Lunch and Learn: Primary Care & LGBTQIA+ Patients.” It was the largest PRISM “Lunch and Learn” event of the year. Dr. Tasha Faruqui focused on what’s currently being done in LGBTQIA+ and how critical it is to provide a safe space for patients who are minors and their parents.  Dr. Stephanie Cockrill provided insight into transgender care and how the topic is still in its infancy in terms of gaining consensus, policy, and consistent practices within healthcare. PRISM will continue to offer programming and social outings to bring TriHealth team members together.   

Another highlight of PRISM is its participation in the city’s largest Pride celebration, the Cincinnati Pride Festival. TriHealth is the official healthcare provider of Cincinnati Pride. At the festival, members of PRISM and other team members interact with a very enthusiastic and appreciative crowd estimated by organizers to be 250,000 people this year.
